Cooling fan bypass

Ok, so I've seen this mentioned a couple of times on the site, but not sure if there was any real in depth description of it. I have seen people mention they bypassed the cooling fans to operate on a seperate switch mounted somewhere in the car so they can be turned on and off anytime. I looked to see if there were any posts dedicated to this, but could not find one. If anyone has done this, could you possible pass on some knowledge. I don't want to mess with the electrical without at least some sort of guide. I have a 2000 with the 2.4l. Thanks for the help.

Why do any of us do anything Nate. The fans don't seem to be working properly and not pushing enough air. I figured if I bypassed them, I could put them on when stuck in lovely NY traffic so I don't overheat.

hmm, the issue may not be the fans themselves, why not get a change of coolant/radiator flush and use some waterwetter with 50/50 Green Mix, i know my fasn sucked on Dexcool, and changed it out and now when they come on a little below the 3/4th line, the temp drops right down to below half

might also be your CTS needs replaced as well. If you do a mod, make sure you set it up so it goes on/off when it's supposed to by the computer, but that you can only override making it come on, not forcing it off. I think there's a Casper's Fan Switch setup that will do this for you.

yeah if you override it and turn it on and off manually, what if you forget? you will overheat the car and tear the engine up.

you best bet if you have a little money on hand is get a new 180* t-stat, flush the old prestone and fill it with new one and get you fan turn-on point set to 180* in your pcm table by somebody that has a hptuner (if you know someone that has one)..... like cavaliers60 said... if you forget to turn them on... it'll cost way more to repair...
