Very Very Very bad idea! I commend you for wanting to do this but it isn't going to improve on sound quality one iota. I can make those cables all day and pretty damn good if I say so myself, but there is allot of science put into making the store bought cables. making them yourself just creates more opportunity for noise entering the audio. Seriously just buy some decent cables man, and save yourself the trouble. Its not hard to do but I don't think you are going to gain anything from it.

Oh yeah to answer your question

http://www.parts-express.com/wizards...TOKEN=39625606

I just think its a wasted effort but to each his own. Making these cables is a breeze but when you take off the one you just made and put on one that was store bought and listen you can't tell me that there is a huge difference. Stay away from cheap connectors!

If you insist on doing this...then for cable find a one pair or two pair 16 to 18 awg shielded cable..Belden makes some good stuff but its pricey last I checked. You'll have to do some research..its hard to find cable that isn't sold on rolls of 500 to 1000ft.

I agree with you that you can buy better ones pre-made, but I was wondering what huge difference you are talking about, and if this is exclusive to car audio. I have done a lot of work in home systems, and picking out differences between cables in a blind test can be very difficult, unless one of them is defective.

I was responding also to post#3, that implied a "bought" cable had better sound quality. I that you just misspoke on the 2nd post.

aaaaahhhh I got you...
Well think of it this way when a person choses to make a cable they generally don't get a shieled cable and buy cheap connectors. So when they make the cable or cables up they can really sound bad just because of the signal loss and noise being injected on the the audio stream, so in comparison to to store bought the quality is better.

good find on the phoenix gold rca's. If I make rca's, ill definately use higher quality cable and connectore (no cheap stuff). Basically Im looking for a "monster" type of cable on a budget, and I think it would be cool to try it out. I was just trying to see if someone knew where to get parts from.

I make my own RCAs for the house using RG6 and compression connectors, but not in the car, those are too rigid.

Let us know how they turn out.. I'm using some cheap 3 dollar ones that are like 4-5 meters then I used some couplers and ran 2 meter monster RCA's off of those no noise or anything but I don't know the difference, my friends system doesn't sound any different than mine and we have the same system so I guess they are working pretty well...

Ghadsphi is an unknown quantity at this point
In America and Wow the farther you refine something the cheaper it is overall. You want coper ore $100... you want items requing lots of copper and assorted items requiring stuff you can't find in your garage? that'll be $.50 (even though it requires 10 copper).
