Alero2k4 your statement is....dissapointing, skills or no skills, if the car doesn't have the speed upgrades needed to go that fast the best driver in the world isn't gonna handle it....

somebody needs to make a post about chips for the purpose of driving faster than 107, and what you should put into consideration of other parts, etc.. before getting a chip (on the track ofcourse..)

that way these threads don't turn into a huge steaming pile of crap.

Dammit, see I have this problem with I don't always write everything out and I tend to make people fill in the blanks...seriously ask people who know me... I am positive that an Alero could run at 120 with just as much stability as say a ford taurus, or my mom's old bonneville. Obviously tires are a must, as should be brakes. Honestly, springs and struts also, so it doesn't 'float' so much...does that help explain what I was trying to say??? Those are all things that can be upgraded for cheap and make it far more stable and safe to run higher speeds.

I am positive that Alero2k4 is full of poop. I've had my Alero faster that 107 (downhil + drafting at the same time, got to 115) and the Alero is just not aerodynamically good at that speed. It started shaking a hell of a lot at 110.

If you want proof that drafting will get your car faster:
set your cruise control to 73mph. get behind a truck on a thruway. you're speed will jump to about 77-83 mph depending on how fast the truck is going and how much air it is displacing.

To all those f***ers that STILL want to get rid of their governor because they just want to see how fast they can go, go right ahead. You deserve to get in a crash and die. You will get ZERO sympathy from all of us that warned you, because you're idiots.

(what i agreed with alero2k4's post was that the wheels struts, springs would give you higher stability at higher speeds, after reading every post in this thread, i realized that our cars aren't really meant to go that fast, i shoulda stated that before putting up that smilie....)

well, yeah, those parts will help. But STOCK, our cars are physically incapable of handling that speed, hence the governor. But if somebody seriously have to ask if their car can handle it, they more than likely don't have the driving skill to handle it themselves. More experienced people will be able to find out by working their way up to those speeds and determining it on their own.

^i completely agree on this topic. there is no reason to go that fast, on public road/highway. all your doing is endangering yourself and everyone around you, regardless of your "skills"

police officers go to training to learn to handle high speeds, and your average driver, even IF you THINK you can drive fine at that speed, you can't.

If you don't know 1. how to make a car (safely) go that fast 2. how to get around a gov. then don't do it.

Wonder why the orignal poster has not come back??

Alright this is probably the last thing im going to say about this because it is getting old. I never plan on un-governing my car because A.) drag racing is no fun B.)neither is street racing. With that said i still think that SOME of you guys need to chill out on the way you approach the subject. Also, i think your understimating the alero, my friend has a 2000 toyota camry that doesn't shut off until 120. The alero is much more equipped to handle that speed than a camry.

Are you serious??? Rather then try to help people do it the right way you would rather just tell them they deserve to die??? WTF!?!?!? Do you not think that since it was downhill and drafting you will loose some control due to the fact that you have hardly any downforce because you were drafting??? There are cars with FAR worse aerodynamics that handle speeds up and beyond that. What all did you have done to your car when you went 115??? (Suspension and Aero wise)

I have taught myself out in the middle of no-where (BLM land etc) how to drive and be able to correct slides, take high speed corners, drift etc. So to say that is simply incorrect. While I agree that MOST drivers cannot handle that, that doesn't include all, and there are alot of drivers who could.

/\ im sorry but did you just say drifting? haha! thats news to me, i didnt know you could do that in a fwd car. im pretty neutral on the whole topic, if you are the guy doing 130 on the freeway through traffic then you are a dumbass, if you go out in the middle of nowhere and scope out the rode beforehand and slow down when you see an oncoming car i dont think its that bad as long as your vehicle is set up to handle the speed. Im not sure about a how the alero handles at those speeds stock, but i will say that i took mine to 130 on an empty road. What can i say i was curious to see the changes that DHP made to my car. My alero with suspension mods felt totally stable at that speed, so i dont know if people are exagerating or if struts and springs made that much of a difference, im not sure. so what im getting at is that if someone makes the effort to ensure that if something goes wrong they will be the only ones hurt i dont see a problem with it. we should be issuing a cautionary statement and then explaining what needs to be done to make such a naturally unsafe act safer, since as was said before whether we tell someone to do it or not odds are they probably still will so in my eyes id rather have them do it with the parts necessary to make it safer than just go try and get hurt. jmho.

What is with all you belligerent people? If you want to take off the governor, fine. There's really no point to it, except in Spy/BlackJack/other faster guys' applications. Drag racing ain't fun? Go to the track you schmuck. It's more fun than you think. And you want to Auto-x, or race at a road course? You won't be breaking 100mph there anyway. NO POINT TO REMOVING THE GOVERNOR!!!!!!

f*** off already.

for me losing the governer was kind of just an extra, it wasnt the point of buying dhp, i wanted the better timing and fuel delivery, i was after the power on the low end. Being able to do 130 was not the point of my purchase, but since i can now i decided to try it, ONCE!! you need to calm down a little, i can understand your position on the issue but jesus man, settle down.

okay, for that reason, I can understand. but going faster than 130mph really is pointless in damn near any street legal car.

Okay, I have a clear head now. Let me clear up my opinion, so we can all get our panties out of a bunch.

There are only 2 good reasons to remove the speed limiter.
1) Spy, BlackJack, and a few other guys with N-bodies will need to get rid of it because it is (potentially) inhibiting their track times.
2) as AleroRed04 mentioned, the electronics that remove the limiter also adds low-end torque.

Any other reason, such as "I want to get from NYC to Toronto in 4 hours" is f***ing retarded. There are zero reasons in everyday life to even go faster than 80mph. Hell, the police WILL arrest you if they catch you going faster than 100mph. State Trooper nearly arrested me when he pulled me over for going 98. He had his cuffs ready.

You want to go faster than 107mph, do it at the track or any place it is legally allowed. If you do that poop on a public roadway/thruway, yes, you deserve whatever happens to you.

FYI, I am not going to go F*** off. You need to grow up sometimes. Keep your damn opinion to yourself. It is obvious you don't care what happens to others if it contradicts what you think is right so I would appreciate it if you kept opinions like that to yourself. I happen to enjoy driving at high speeds, I find it very relaxing and enjoyable. :alcoholic:

And dammit yes I said drifting!!! It is quite possible with a FWD, you just have to know about weight transfer...

The fact of the matter is that if someone wants their vehicle un governed, they can do that. Many many cars have way higher governers than ours so what gives???

And one last thing Albino. There are more places to go above 107 than a drag strip...like the aforementioned Salt Flats...

I didn't mean it to be personal. It's just how bent out of shape people can get (including myself) dealing with this subject.

And if you want a car that has a higher governor, maybe you should go buy one. :P
