Wasn't this proven by 2 slightly modified cars and 1 heavily modified car ?

Original question:
2.2 vs 2.4 vs 3.4
who wins in a race off line all brand new? and also why? difference between all 3?

the 2.4 like the 2.2 is small for the weight for the engine... but is worse because its design lacks the efficiency and durability of the 2.2
the 2.2 is fantastic.. other than the lack of power...

The above has little to do with the original question.

This is true for all 3 engines in the Alero and is therefore irrelevant.

some of u r giving the I4 too much of a weight advantage. Yes, it is lighter but not enough to argue that it will make much of a difference and beat a 3.4. there r alot more factors u should consider. I think the torque on the 3.4 is it's weapon.
However i would still love to see who gets it between the 3.4 and the 2.2/2.4 manual.

quickest off the line??? should be the v-6 due to 200ft lbs of torque. but if you have a 5-spd you can launch a hell of a lot better.
on average the v-6 is faster in the 1/4 but there has been a few 2.4 close if not the same and then there was a factory freak eco with 5-spd that did better than all.

I think the 3.4 is better, but thats just my opinion, plus with a manual, it varies driver to driver due to different shifting habbits and the response time of the driver.

auto stock vs auto stock, v6 beats 2.4. tested at the track.
make the 2.4 stick, 2.4 ftw.
2.4 stick > 2.2 stick > 3400 > 2.4 auto > 2.2 auto
/ thread.

depends on the speeds involved. 0-60, the V6 auto is only marginally faster than the 4 cyl auto, so the 4cyl stick would walk on the V6 auto at least up to 60. But the V6 will pull away at higher speeds, in the 1/4 and higher

I'm talking stock vs stock, if you read back on old articles from car and driver, motor trend, etc, you'll see what I'm talking about

Oldsmobile did all the testing for us why do you think to 3.4 is in the higher models and more expensive.. because it's faster and more powerful why would you offer a car say.... 15 000 brand new and get the exact same car 14 000 thats faster then the 15 000. I'm not saying this because i have the 3.4 but I've raced the same car in a 2 door with the 2.4 and won and i have a 4 door.
