now you got me thinking... i wonder if i could do the same, just with 2 colors. since my gauges can change, i wonder if i could have red needles w/ the blue lights and blue needles with the red lights... hmm...

i'd need a spare gauge cluster though. i'm not willing to tear mine apart to do that kinda work. (don't have the time either.)

it takes time but im out of work for 5 months so to stay sain (i have 2 kids ) my wife set up a table in the basement for me to go hide .

you can buy two color leds that would be cool.

and it is a lot cheaper then those kits for $75 and i can say i made it !

few changes i ran the wires out the back. because the gauge face would not sit flush.

i also put a dimmer on the needles in case they are to bright .when i find a brightness i like after i install them i will then solder a resistor in line to keep it dim and remove the dimmer

For the tail light, I would just get the LED strip like I did unless you really like soldering. lol

Here's what I did.

It's not very expensive, but if you already have the LEDs and resistors, you are set. I would attatch them to some Luan to better secure the LEDs and if you ever decide to change it, you can simply pop it out and replace it with something else. I might try different designs or something.

the plan:

1"x11" peice of plexy. with about 70 leds (5mm) in two rows. top 36 brake bottom row 18 left turn/ 18 right turn. frosted plexy lens.

I like it! now just make a set with a wider chevron and in amber LEDs and I'll be in line for it

i was goig to do a olds symbol a first but couldn't get the detail. the picture shows the room that you have to work with. ye it could be wider. i would have used bigger leds (5mm or 10 mm ) for that i wanted the solid line look.

thanks i will let you know if im selling

Actually, my original plan WAS to do what he did, but I didnt' want to run the risk of drilling into my mirror and cracking it. Since he did it and I actually see what it looks like now, I might give it a try. I would find some way to cover the back ot the LEDs so you aren't glowing inside the housing. Maybe some back glow. If I get those Grand am mirrors, I'll play around with my old mirrors and try out that oldsmobile symbol look.

Can you see the LEDs through the mirror during the day when they aren't on? If not, then what I might do is do a Oldsmobile symbol in blue leds, then amber turn signal arrow with it. That way at night, both mirrors have the oldsmobile symbol glowing in the mirror and the turn signals will flash over it, or beside it.... however it ends up. lol

how exactly did you take the mirrors apart? i have the electric mirrors and it looks pretty complicated to separate the two pieces.
