okay so i love flooring my alero on ramps to get on the highway. so for the past month or so, most of the time when i floor it every time it reaches another 10ish kms the car jerks, and its not even beefy. so then i tried going gradually to the floor, and it did the same thing. i asked my supervisor at the shop and he says it sounds an awful lot like a misfire. what do YOU think?

well it can be a number of things like fuel filter, bad TPS, fuel pump going out, low tranny fluid, map sensor, bad ignition module, bad coil, arcking spark plug wire, bad ground, bad gas, just to name a few but some of them are easy to check if they are bad before you buy new ones.

it could be the tranny fluid, i'm pretty sure that hasn't been checked in god knows when.. i'll ask him tomorrow again i suppose, make him take it out for a drive and hopefully he'll know what it is

question...what else would be a sign of low tranny fluid? my tranny cooler lines are seeping and there's a big mess on them where they're located by the oil filter. it doesn't drip but its leaking. how do I check tranny fluid, btw?

i dont have a dip stick so i'm guessing you dont either? is that the case with all aleros?

i know with the aleros the tranny is a sealed sytem and i was told would have to be checked by a service tech

well.. my first recommendation is to stop flooring it, thats certainly not gonna help the longevity of your engine..

to check trany fluid level you must get the car level and romove the red cap on the drivers side a-top the trany. you should see if its full or not. pretty sure thats all there is to it.

no there is a plug next to your passenger side axle. you loosen the plug when your tranny is hot and if nothing comes out the you are low. if so add fluid until it slowly drips out of the plug.

so is that how we check and fill our transmission with fluids? I thought i seen a red cap lil lower than mid way up from the engine on the driver side and thought it said something about tranny fluid

yeah its the red cap, we dont have a effing dipstick. i've known that for a while but it's so annoying! i want this problem fixed because i can't stand having a gutless car

The red plug is on top of the tranny under your air intake. If you look hard enough, you will find it. Checking the fluid is difficult and actually can be a bit dangerous to do in your driveway.
You have to have the car up on stands and level so you can get under it. This means that you may need four stands, one for each corner to have it level. As stated above, there is another smaller plug (not the red one) just above the passager side axle on the transmission itself. In the Haynes manual it states that the car has to be warmed up and running while you check it. Take the small plug out and add fluid through where the larger red plug was until it runs out of the where the small plug was.

i think friday i might take my car to the dealership for 3 things........powersteering whine, rear disc scraping, and this tranny issue, hopefully all i will pay is 100$ and they can tell me wtf is going on
