Short throw shifter

Ok I searched a bit through he forums but I didn't find out much. Just wondering what short throws I have to choose from for my GX? I heard about B&M. How is the Fidanza?

I am not sure what the difference is between them all.. possibly quality of materials, But I have the cosmo racing shifter and I am very happy with it.. the knob it comes with is pretty heavy and kinda helps smooth the shifts.

I have the fidanza and every once in a while when putting in R it gets stuck and jumps out of gear when you engage the clutch. Can't speak for the other ones.

Fidanza normally makes superb products from what i have heard. a friend had a fidanza alum. fly wheel on his civic and it works amazingly

my car does that once in a blue moon. and i have stock shifter

Does the stock knob just screw off? I cannot get it off..... I will probably go with the Cosmo Racing shifter.

Nope it is pressed on.... they recommend taking out the center console, then the shifter assembly.

I just removed shifter trim disconnected all connections(2 shifting cables, ignition lockout, some wire retainers and the 4 mounting nuts and removed the whole unit through the opening in the console.

Make sure to mark the shift cables with a sharpie before taking them apart, saves alot of time on reassembly!!!

I just used a reciprocating saw to cut the shaft.. It is steel inside.

Mark the cables for like the position or which one goes where?

when you look at it there are two metal rods that go into a plastic connectors (lids hinge up about 1/2" so the rod can slide out.)... mark the metal rod where it enters the connector so when you slide it back in during re-assembly you know the correct depth to eliminate any headaches trying to set them properly for smooth shifting.

I have found that my reverse lockout mechanism "wore out" and did not operate nicely... causing it to jump out or was difficult to put in reverse sometimes...

Looking down on the right side of the shifter assembly is a pie shape plastic housing with a white plasic piece and a roller connected to the ignition lock wire. i just popped it out with a flat screwdriver, other piece slides out from underneath shifter...the wire relaxes and ignition works fine and It doesn't have to be in reverse to remove my key!! it fixed all problems!!

My only complaint about the short shifter is the revers lock-out mechanism is tight and started to wear a hole in the bag, I am planning to remove the metal tab on the shifter to eliminate it.

Very interesting! Now that you mention this I haven't had to put in R to remove key ever since I installed my short shifter.... guess something must have gone wrong there. I still have the gear jumping out though. I should take a look.

I would also be interested in taking the whole sliding tube out as it doesn't match my shift knob (I have a round weighted knob) and I'm just hiding it under the boot and pulling it up through the boot.

There is a "metal tab" that is connected to the collar that prevents it from gonig into reverse.. just remove that piece of metal and you dont have to touch the collar.

If taking out those ignition lock-out pieces doesn't solve your reverse problem adjust the connection on the "front-to-back" linkage by moving it in one or two notches at a time to shorten it, then check for operation in all gears. Short shifters sometimes require some fine tuning.

Use the search as many people have had this problem. I took the entire thing out and hammer it to break the inner plastic. Then i had to put my foot on the knob and pull the shifter off.

I used my cordless reciprocating saw... but a hacksaw would work too, just take alot longer!
