JL W7 line

Has anyone used these or heard these before? From what ive seen they are "supposedly" Some of the best subs on the market. I have been thinking about either buying a pair of the 8" w7's and mounting them in the rear of my car where the 6x8s are currently now.. That is IF the actual soundquality is up to par. Or id like to have a single 12w7 maybe even two in the trunk.... Please someone help me out with these here! Yes ive been here many times about subs... If you knew me you would know i like options! So please input!

IMO the JL W7's are amazing subs. I would recommend those for anyone that is willing to let their hearing go to shit and have money to blow! They are expensive subs, but are well worth the money. You will need to have a heavy duty amp to push the W7's.

Just to tell you an experience with a W7 that shows how good they are, my best friend mcgovern had 3 W7's in the back of his Dakota. His Dakota was the shit, until he got rid of it cause of his wife, but whole other story there. Anyway, he had 1000 watts going to each of the W7's. He was driving one day with his subs on about half way volume ( at 30 when it goes up to 60) and felt something on the side of his cheeks. He pulled over and felt both sides of his face and noticed that he had blood running down the side of his face. His eardrums were bleeding because of the bass. He lost about 20% of his hearing.

So, that just goes to show you how bad ass these subs are. If I had the money to buy them then I would get them before any other sub. Like I said, just make sure you put some power behind them, or they will sound like shit, of course that is with any sub.

Definately a good way to go if money is not an issue...you get what you pay for.

So far that sounds great! No matter what they will be pushed by the JL 1000/1 amp

That amp will make the W7 hit hard man. If you get two W7's Id suggest getting 2 of the 1000/1 amps. Make sure you have something to help with the wattage being pulled. A capacitor won't help with that much wattage, you should look into those high voltage alternators. They are a little pricey, but worth it in the long run.

if you have money, and want a boner effect, then yes theyre great. They are wayy overpriced tho. i would rather have Treos, RE, mags, or a brahma powered by a memphis or soundstream amp

haha yea if i have 2 of the 12s i may get 2. Then i will need to find an alt. Unfortunately i think i have to get one custome made GRRR. But the 2 8s are 300 RMS i can use just one 1000/1 for that

i would use the 500/1 for 2 8s. and trust me, 500 watts on a couple 8s is plenty enough

Yea, that 1000/1 on two 8's may be overkill. 500/1 should do great as dusta said...

Again I am pretty big on SQ. Infact id rreally like to have an SQL system... With that id also like a set of 6.5 inch components capable of being very loud. but VERY clean. If i decide to go with the 2 8s in the rear deck then it will only be a front soundstage system. With the 8s will they be loud enough? Granted i dont want them so load to burst my drums but i do want lots of bass. I was thinking about using JLs line of ZR components for the front. But if i decided to go with a larger 12 in the trunk i may go with front 6.5s and rear 5.25s both maybe the ZR line... UNLESS someone can provide me better speaers that i dont know of. They WILL be amped regardless if its frontstaged or both. If anyoine has any suggestions THROW EM OUT THERE!!!!!!

I'm sure if you setup the 8s correctly they should be loud enough, as long as they can produce the frequencies that you want. I have a set of since discontinued Kicker F69c4 (if i remember that right) 6x9s, which were their "freeair subwoofer" as they put it. They put out enough sound for the average person that would want to listen to their music loud, and manage to make things rattle on the car.

yea forget about mounting them in the rear deck , because it wont happen. Just mount them in the trunk like normal-sealed/ported and call it a day

I have measered it and they will fit.. altho i will have to do some cutting and make a new base board and then glass a box under it. but it will fit. still need suggestions on speakers. Another reason i want to put them there is because i wanna save trunk space a lil.. I only have 11 cubes of space.

I would use the mtx 9500s over W7 for spl if you want SQ go with W7s. The 9500's take a bigger pounding than the W7's. 9500 has larger voice coil.

Like stated, the W7 won't work well in the rear panel. They are more of a small sealed enclosure not a infinite baffle. You would have to remake the entire rear seat and deck to seal it off entirely. There are a number of reasons why people don't go this route. One, the vibrations from a high spl sub would be unbarrable. Second, spl subs use cabin pressure to produce most of the bass. You would be better off getting a pair of the W3's if you go with rear deck install.
You won't be able to fit any high end 6.5 comps in the front of your alero without major modifications. I had the 6.5 xr comps and eclipse 6.5's in my alero. I had to remove the map portion and fabricate a new enclosure to allow the speaker to sit on the outside of the door. Go with a nice set of 5 1/4's. I loved the JL's I had. Directed makes a very nice set. I would kill for the chance to hear a set of Focals. Sorry, I just remembered. Check into the Boston Accoustics flag ship. I nearly bought them over the JL's. They were the same price, the JL just seemed to have a slightly nicer tweeter. However, the Bostons use a NiMh battery. so the depth is much shallower than the JL. It may fit.

Maybe i should also reiterate this isnt an alero. It is a 2001 ford escort ZX2. The fronts are 6.5s and the rear 6x8s. IF i were to do this i would pretty much redo the deck... Since i am going to school at wyotech fabricating something like that wont be too hard to do.

You still should concider the W3 if you want to go with the deck. Vibrations in the window, trunk release and loss of cabin gain will eliminate any results the W7 would give you. In short, it won't be worth it. W7's in the rear will outpound anything you place in the deck. If you want sound quality, then the W3 will reproduce a more accurate sound. I can't guarantee it would sound better in the deck. Bass will travel through your seat with little distortion or rattle.

Ok now if i was to run one 10 inch w7 what amp would be reccoemended also comparing that w7 to an alpine 10" type x... which would be better for more accuracy and SQ?
