Tsss sound when changing gears?

Okay, don't make fun of my newbiness when it comes to cars but, a few months ago, more like last summer, this guy in an import (not susre what it was) had a pretty cool car. I was in my friends car and he was comming up on us. Everytime he switched gears, it made a Tss sound, like a hiss. It sounded awesome (imo) and was wondering what it is. Nitros? I don't think it was a supercharger because it only made the noise when he switched gears. It looked like he put a few bucks into his car so I have no idea and am hoping one of you might know. Thanks.

No I think it was meant to sound that way... like a cool Tss like nitrous or something. I don't think anything was wrong with it.

It is called a Blow Off Valve like stated above and it releases pressure when you change gears. I like the sound too, my buddy has it on his eclispe.

haha wow. ok. a BOV (blow off valve) is used to release excess pressure in a turbo system. you would need a turbo system to get the bov. they make fake ones, but its utterly pointless.

to get the blow off sound you need to turbo your car. if you want to go the cheap route and just get boost and no motor build you would be looking at around 1000bucks. but thats getting used parts and not building the motor. (1000 if you have a 2.4, not sure about the v6, im guessing much more?)

okay so to get the BOV I need turbo... and the cheapest turbo for a 2.4l (what I have) used is roughly $1000? Just want to get this straight to make sure I am not going to get it lol.

thats what I'm talking about. Where do I find a turbo kit for an Alero? I only see imports... for both a turbo system and a BOV.

You might not find a whole lot of listings for Alero (or any at all). But search for Cavalier/Sunfire (both run the 2.4) kits, and you should have better luck.

engine...powerplant....motor. Generically the same thing unless you're talking to an anal-retentive gearhead
