Transmission Help
Doing a fluid and filter change, how much if i just drain the pan, how much fluid will i need to refill back to spec? i hear between 9 and 12 and was unsure, the tranny acts up when its really hot out and i have been at high speeds for a while, other than that its fine, its that 2nd gear "jump" that some other people have, and i seem to have it also... it never does it when its cool out or the car is been driving around in city traffic, only on HOT days coming off the highway, if i shut off and restart it also goes away... makes no sense huh?

I honestly don't know. I know my trans took 7 quarts like the Haynes manual said but they are also know to be incorrect at times so far it shifts good and there is no leaks.

Buy 2 gallons and you'll be safe. I've done mine 3 times but never measured exactly how much it is, all I can tell you is that its every bit of 7 quarts but less than 8.

ok but if you never changed the fluid, i wouldnt do it now ya might "shock" the trans, i have seen that happen before where some people never change the trans fluid and then it gets done, and then the problems begin
it could be 2nd is slowly going, any shutter at different speeds, check engine light on i would be leary about changing the fluid now

i didn't think draining was a problem. I thought flushing was a bad choice for a high mileage tranny?

well for the little plug your going to need to have the car up on a lift or over a pit, as for it's location I'm not too sure.

You are correct sir. Bdyman is referring to the damage that can be caused by a flush. Only changing the filter and replacing the lost fluid is always a good thing.

no. there is a weep hole on the side, that you need to pull the plug on. when it drips out, your good. if it gushes out, you have too much.

Well, you have to see that there is at least a drip to know that it is full and replace the plug.
