I'm no audio guru either, but here are a few of my uneducated guesses.

-Maybe the speakers are completely burned out
-Maybe the speaker wires got messed up somewhere
-If your car leaks, like mine, maybe the water caused a short with the wiring (happened to me once).
-Or your stereos speaker outs could have burned out. This would cause the stereo to light up, but not produce sound as well.

ninja gremlins.

seriously, this happened to me a few years ago. I went driving through a huge puddle. the doors filled up (well, really wet on the inside too) and speakers were soaked. Sound didn't work at all. I let them dry for a couple days and they worked fine.

Nick and Valley's ideas sound plausible too. if you have a volt meter, check the speakers out.

Do you have amps hooked up to your speakers, front and rear? Sometimes if the amps get too hot, no sound.

I hate the stock radios for these cars with a passion. They are doomed to fail...each and everyone, and if it hasn't yet it will. You may need to find a wiring diagram of the lighting circuit and start checking all fuses and relays.....etc. Sounds like failing components of some type....could also be some intermittent relays, of course I'm just speculating.

Go to the thread below and look up the wiring diagram for your car...I look at my diagram and if they are similar then I would check the Auto park lamp relay in the engine bay fuse block, then I would check on the passenger side fuse block and look at the Inst LPS fuse. You may also want to check the dimmer switch and the dimmer module because in my car (don't know about yours) all the interior lights are feed from the dimmer module, which is in turn feed by the dimmer switch. Could be a bad module or switch. Good luck!

If you need a stock radio I have one from a 2000 Alero GX
let me know, if your radio is the problem, and you choose not to go aftermarket. But personally, I'd go aftermarket.
