I have the CAI on my 2000 3.4 and purchased the extension wiring that moves the Idle Air Temperature sensor from its original location to somewhere closer to where the filter is now in the wheel well. When I installed it and just laid it in the wheel well near the filter, the check engine light came on. When I took it off and plugged the wire back into its original location, the light went off. Is there somplace in particular that you are supposed to plug that wire into when you install the extension cable? Thanks for any ideas.

put it back in the stcok location, this mod doesnt really help but decrease gas mileage.... www.60degreev6.com has alot of info on this misconception under MYTHS on ther homepage :thumbsup:

Thanks for the web address. I went there and all I saw was a comment about that resistor that is sold on ebay that hooks into the IAT cable. I bought one of them and I THINK I noticed a difference. Certainly killed my gas mileage so I took it out. I guess the fact that the extension cable is not working is why Cooper Electronics that I bought it from will not return my inquiry to them. What a waste! Thanks again for the feedback!

no problem :thumbsup: there is alot of info there, and i also did the same thing too...i ran my own extension wires and mounted the sensor up by the front bumper.....yeah it was a waste, not sure if it really did anything but make the gas guage move quicker, but also on that note...when you put in the cai...you are getting cooler air to the sensor, versus the stock airbox, so the stock location should be fine

They told me to just send it back and they'd refund the money no questions asked. It was 36" long. If you want to try it, their web address is www.cooperelectronics.com but I and it looks like most would not recommend it.

i beleave with that mod you are suppostu mount the sensor back into the path of the airflow... in the cai just after the filter probably....
but if it happened when you attached the extension.. did you inspect it to see if maybe it was damaged.. or if the wires in the harness are carrying a current to the new location.. if one was damaged the signal woudnt get thru... maybe causing the light to come on...
But really... Jturkey is right... it is basicly just a gimic...
Get boost insted :P

Ya know, I really wondered about it not being installed back into the airflow and if it was installed properly. Just plugging the extension in and then laying the other end down in the fenderwell next to the cone filter just didn't seem right. I mean it was just an unconnected electrical connector laying there and I couldn't figure out how that was supposed to sense anything. Isn't the sensor located inside the MAF tube? I assumed you were supposed to in some way drill a hole or something like that in the tube next to the cone filter and then where would the new sensor come from? Maybe remove it from its original location and plug the hole and reinstall it down by the filter? Oh well, if anyone ever figures it out and it works then please post it. Thanks.

Um yea take the sensor out and put it inthe airflow just after the filter in your cai... it will prolly work fine, maybe take the lower part of your cai out and have a bung welded in to accept the sensor...
and then plug the other hole of course..

I kinda thought I was being duh! Oh well I've returned it now so I guess I'll have to wait and see if anyone has luck doing it that way. I laid it in there because some guy at PFYC suggested that. It kinda sounded wierd to me but....
