I have a 2002 alero v6 (love it!) and I just recently purchased a CAI from ebay. The guy I bought it from also threw in for free a IAT sensor chip like the ones you see on ebay for about $20. Are these so called "horsepower chips" any good? Do they really increase any horsepower or torque? Can they cause long term damage to the engine or decrease gas mileage?

The "IAT sensor chip" is basically just a resistor that you can pick up at Radio Shack for about 20 cents, and it falls into the "Snake Oil" category; sorry, it doesn't do squat.

Figures. I'll just junk the thing. Thanks for info. After I install my cia, what are some good cheaper performance upgrades that actually make a difference?

the iat doesn't do jack.... another "cheaper" performance mod would an exhaust system or a computer perfomance module... you could also change your s-plugs and cables to gain very minimal performance if any at all..

I have changed my plugs and wires to a better plug and thicker wires. About all it did was help my engine run better and smoother. Where could I find some computer performance modules? Would its installation require an upgrade in other areas? Thanks.

This may be off topic but what about the Hypertech PowerStat Thermostats that pfyc.com offers? Are these worth enough to install?

I'll be gettin a cat-back exhaust soon!

Thanks guys, you rock!!

Don't buy the JET mod. It really doesn't help performance. It's very inconsistant. You can go to DHP and get a reprogramed PCM. Somebody on this site just got one and is testing it. We are all waiting for his results. Don't buy the PCM on PFYC. It's only for the GA which has a different "final drive" gear ratio.

The Thromo on PFYC is a pretty good buy, helps keep the car run cooler. I got it done when I had my manifold done so I don't know about stock manifold gains with this.

Check out RSMracing.com too. I buy a lot of stuff from him.

Since you got the CAI, you can take the screen out of your MAF. There is a lot of different views on this, It doesn't do much, just free up air flow.

IAT chip, Throttle Postion Ehancer (TPS), both junk

I saw the cai on ebay for about $90 with a kn filter and blue couplers. I ended up buying straight from the seller instead of through ebay. I paid a total of about $120 shipped and he threw in the iat chip for free which is why I was asking about it in this thread. It was all brand new so it was a good deal.

I haven't got it installed just yet. I've been busy with some gauge mods.

Be sure to be careful what you buy on ebay though.
