Ram Air?

Anyone know of Ram Air being used on the 3400? Seem that there would be room for a closed airbox under the hood with a CAI installed.

I was looking into that when I bought my Alero, cuz I knew the 01' Grand Am Gt's(with the 3400) had stock ram air. Im sure there are peeps runnin the ram air. I think I saw a pic somewhere where the guy had built a custom air box for his cone filter WAI, and the ram air fed that. It can be done. Go to a newer. car junk-yard and gank yourself pontiacs ram air tubing

it wont do anything for performance, its been tried and tested. ur better off to get cai

^^^Agreed^^^ I would say just buy a CAI, but if you want to do it, I would suggest check www.grandamgt.com for a stock ram air set up rather than "ganking" one from a junkyard.

Ram air only helps at higher speeds (over 60 mph or so). Get a CAI

Ram Air will improve Perf at higher speeds. It is used a lot on sportbikes.

By who?

Every grandam gt owner with ram air.

A CAI will help move more air at any speeds. Your better off going that route than trying to cram a ram air setup under the alero hood.

ok the CAI is a smooth tube that goes from behind the fog light up into engine. so air blowing down by fog light is going right into engine and it is a smooth as can be so the air isnt disberbed on its way up. a grand am's ram air has to go through the ram air holes, down tube to air box, through filter, and through anouther tube that is far from smooth. if your going 70mph all the time then im sure ram air helps but not worth it to put on an alero

Yeah, stock ram air off a gt isn't all that great.

Its squared toobing thats like 2inch diameter, made of plastic and runs right over the exhaust manifold.
Not a very good setup, I mean for a stock car it ain't bad, but for modding, it ain't poop.

Thats why most GAGT owners still go with a CAI. Same with my g/f's car, i plan to yank the stoak ram air and go with a CAI.

But if u have ur heart set on it, i'll sell u the whole setup, airbox and all. Hit me a PM if ur interested

i believe springs had ram air on his car but im not sure

actually, that may have been the pic I saw. It was the pontiac ram air with the inlet mounted right between the hood and the bumper, and it routed the air right to a nicley fabricated airbox that was around the cone filter of a WAI......that way, im assuming.....u get all the low end punch, and then at high speeds and RPMS, your still getting nice cool air right to the filter. I think it would be a nice setup. Im still gonna try just the CAI first tho. If Im not happy with that, I may just do what I talked about above.

Yes, because a large displacement, 2-valve/cylinder V6 is similiar to a small disaplacement 4 or 5-valve/cylinder 4 cylinder bike :rolleyes:

They don't suck in much air, they make their horsepower by revving to the sky, and thus what works for them, won't work for your engine

oldsmopimp has a good point up there ^^^ i thought about that once but that is all it was, i never tried it.. wonder if it would do anything..

how could a pontiac GAGT ram air stock setup fit on the alero!?!? the GAGT's stock setup takes air from the front grill...the Alero doesnt have a grill! lol..at least up top.

the GA ram air won't work on our cars. yes it will fit but it would suck NOTHING.

the GA ramair takes the air from the front grills between headlights and directs it into the airbox.

putting it on an alero is like putting a door that works on solid wall.

It'd be impossible to put a GAGT ram air setup on an alero.....alero's have NO GRILL up top like the GAGT does and the GAGT's grill is there that ram air is set up at

ummmm impossible???

there are a few alero's that have done it and had sucess. Have u ever torn into a GAGT ram air setup. I have a 01 gagt along with the alero, and the main collection sits just back from teh front end. it just has a shroud that directs air up to it. But u CAN put the ram air setup on without the shroud and it will collect air from the gap between the front end and the hood. Given its not a huge gap, but the collection thing is very skinny anyway.

I don't mean to start poop with u dood, but it has been done before, and owning an alero and a GAGT i know that it could be done with some noticable results above the alero factory intake. for those people that don't want to invest into a CAI

I gotchya man..no poop started lol....It'd be better still probably even if you went with a short ram setup..you can basically make one for just about the price of the cone filter you need to buy and you'll get a LOT more airflow with that anyway
