5 spd Getrag - no second, slips in reverse

2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE1 2.2 5spd Getrag

Slips in reverse, doesn't want to shift into second (feels like it won't click in)

This could be caused by me trying to force it into reverse before I figured out that I had to lift the collar.

The service vehicle light is on, and it "bings" at me when I put it into reverse. Any ideas?

Any resemblence in an MT to an AT with a "spider gear?

For the second gear it could be the 1-2 fork being shot. In any case, transmission out and gotta take a look at it. Sounds like a fork for the 1-2 shift but grinding reverse gear could be a lot of things. The clutch is all the way in before shifting into reverse?

I would definitely check out the shifter, cables and cable adjustments before suspecting a failure inside the transmission.

Clutch is all the way in...

what mischief says makes sense to me...

guess i have to check what the code says - that might tell me what's wrong with the reverse.

Checking the cables would be a good thing to. Make sure they aren't bent or broken at all. Just take out the center console. If you need a video of how they should work, I can take a video this weekend .
