not just to be unique but it would just be sick for autocross and track days and such... plus come on... would you rather have an AWD Alero or a RWD Alero..

Depends on where you live and the application. At the track, RWD all day everyday. On dirt or snow AWD > RWD. I do agree if you do autocross, an AWD set up would be awesome. Since my Alero is my beater I would rather go AWD rather than RWD, but if it was summer only than RWD would be better. But then again if you want an AWD car then buy one. It probably would be easier. Thats just my opinion.

It wont be done....he will get overwhelmed by the amount of work needed and give up 1/4 of the way through. Wasnt it not so long ago that you couldnt even complete the door panel mods? Good luck

I have witnessed a 3rd gen Civic being turned into a RWD by one of the autocrossers in my region... what a failure... the car handled much worse as the weight distribution and chassis for a fwd and rwd are very different. I have however seen people turn AWD cars to RWD with good results.

I dont even know what the door panel mod is so I obviously never tried it.. you have me confused with someone else. Nice try on trolling though. And I never said I was going to or would ever do the AWD swap I'm just bringing it up as something someone else could look into.

If you could distribute the weight properly I would MUCH rather see a mid-engine ls4 swap out of an impala SS...but hell, if you get started on awd I'd probably drive all the way out there to give you a hand..

RWD Alero any day, everyday. Why? Because; eff front wheel drive, eff anything that makes the steering wheels be the drive wheels, eff anything that can't do a proper tire eating burnout. Maybe a bit extreme, but I digress... My point is valid, AWD may have many benefits than RWD, it damn sure has more benefits than FWD but you can't hoon an AWD car without breaking half the shit in it. AWD cars are too delicate to have fun with. You can't J turn them, you can't burn out in them, you can't make the front end jump (not that an RWD Alero would ever be able to), basically you have to tune your driving to the car's 4 wheel drive system. Sure you can make it handle like a boss at the autocross or you can do figure 8's but still doesn't beat the fun of driving an RWD Car.

Actually, this has been brought up before, by WIAlero.
http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37162
But anyways, routing the driveshaft isn't the hard part... since the Aztek was FWD based (meaning it was transverse mounted with a preference to the front wheels), the driveshaft wouldn't be that humongous pipe running down the center of your good ole Caprice Classic. It would actually be a skinny pipe going to the back, if that since apparently, GM didn't exactly use a propshaft. Now the real problem would be adapting the Aztek's rear suspension to the Alero. The Aztek is on the "U" platform, which shares NOTHING with the "N" platform, other than the 3400 engine. Adapting the AWD trans is nothing to adapting the rear end, and you would need the whole rear end. The good thing is that it's not a solid axle just how the "N" body is, but I doubt anything can swap over.
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/pontiac27.htm
Here's a site that gives you some hints as to how the rear end of the Aztek is set up. It's doable, but everyone that says it would have a rear end preference is wrong... the end result would still be a FWD Alero with an assist, similar to the 90 Prelude that could steer its rear wheels when making sharp turns or whatever they said it did.
