my switch stopped working too. what i did was to take the button apart and solder a jumper over the switch. the only thing was, i had to take the airbag off to get to it right, (there's a wiring that clips into the back) i hate playing russian roullette with an airbag.

Same thing happened to my switch i have to hold it down to get the cruise to work. The weird thing about mine was that it worked when i was on my way to go auto-x'ing and then when i got done racing.....it didn't work ne more. You guys still think it's probably just the switch and is a weird coincidence?????

I have the same prob on my 01 w/ 2.4. Started going out on a trip to Cali, now doesn't work unless you hold it in & led stays on. It is an electronic switch & per the parts guy @ GM Dealership is prone to going bad. Looks like a PIA to change & for $60 I think I'll go w/ the guys with either the paper or coin to jam the switch on.

i went to the dealership about this a few weeks after getting my car.

it is in fact the switch that is screwed and the price for a new one here is like $120.00 CDN.....thats right...for a SIMPLE switch $120.00 i looked at the guy and gave him a look and walked out..

just go to a junk yard and pull one apart and use that, i just have no idea how to uninstall/install them

When I had my alero I had this happen, it was indeed the switch on the wheel. When mine broke though, I could still get the cruise to engage by holding the button down (or put tape over it for a long trip :P) But w/e locking mechanism was in the switch broke, so as soon as you let go, it disengages. I also had something rattling around in the steering wheel to when you turned it so far, probably related to the broken switch.

Hi folks,
due to the fact, that my switch broke a few month ago. I replaced it.
Its not difficult.

It happend when i was looking for a parking lot. I grad my Wheel a little bit wrong and pull the on/off switch in towards me. SO complete other thing than pushing.
A little plastic sprocket broke. Normally this sprocket secure the switch in the pushed postion.

Had no luck in fixing it. so i wanted to replace the complete part.

Ohh and paid 60€ for it

Good luck guys.

its not to bad except the air bag, mine was a free fix i went to the local junk yard found a switch put it in my pocket and walked out. freebie!!!! so you want to know how to pull it all apart? first step get yourself a set of torque head bits there are only to bolts on the back side of the steering wheel. they are hard to get at but i'm sure you can figure it out(if you have your steering wheel wheel turned straight up and down they are the only 2 holes you can see) remove them 2 bolts and gently remove the air bag(slides right out) pull the wire harness on the bag, you will see what screws you will have to remove next. its not to difficult it took me about 15 min to do and saved me allot of money. i hope this helps and i will check back later to see if you figured it out or not. good luck!!
