Car Detailing

I recently had my car fully detailed and was impressed with the results-even for as much time as I put into cleaning my car myself. However, I was not impressed with the cost of $180 for a full interior/exterior job plus $40 tip. $220 a job? No thanks, I'll invest in my own detailing equipment.

I believe I will purchase a cyclopolisher but the issue I have been having is establishing which products to use and in what precise order. Between glaze, cutting, waxing, claying and their individual cloths and sponges used for each it gets a little overwhelming.

So I open it up in hopes of you body workers out there with the in depth know-how. The specific compound on the correct sponge; directions of use; the proper order in a full organized sequence; dumbed down to the point where a non-mechanic can adapt to them.

If you lived in Michigan you would be taking it to AutoLavish which would be between $500-700. They spend all day on it nonstop and are massively into detail... and it is well worth it. I highly doubt anyone on this forum is into detailing as much as they.

Check out the autopia.com forums, so much info there you will be reading for weeks on end. $220 isn't bad compared to the higher end jobs like Ion is talking about. Most places here that cheap are total hacks.

Luckily for me it was on a military base and tax free as well. $500!?!?!?! Sheesh...someone would have way too much money on their hands for that...

220 is not bad. the GOOD detail shops here charge like 300-450 for a full detail. ie: exterior,interior,engine compartment.

and takes them about 7-9hrs

Well, these big prices are what I am trying to avoid all the same lol. How does the detailing process work so I may invest money to save in the future.
