Exaust

Those of you that have been under our cars should be quick to realize 2 performance destroying points of out cars exhaust system.

1. The cats inlet and outlet sizes are different restricting flow, and also there is no straight line to the back of the car, the fuel cell and suspension get in the way, my solution.

There is a coupling from the down pipe before the cat, start there add new coupling, hi flow cat and 2.5" SS 304 tubing only maybe a foot or less worth going to a 40 series flow master with dual outlets, with a 45 degree (give or take, nothing has been measured out to exactness yet) tubing will go toward side of car coming out between driver and passenger side doors on each side of the car with dual chrome tips.

The only complication i can think if is possibly heat shielding along where the side pipes are.

uhhhhhhhh....... huh? so are you saying put the cat and muffler after the back wheels?

No, no, no, the blue pipe is the down pipe coming from the stock exhaust manifold, everything from that plate (blue which in real life connects to another plate and the stock cat) is gonna be gone. The outlets will be coming out between the front and rear door, don’t use my diagram for measuring thou, it’s completely not to scale.


blue = downpipe

green = new cat

grey = SS tubing

cyanish color = muffler

your car should be super fast once u do that.

Anyone see any problems/complications with this setup? Im kina curious why no one has done a set up like this? It seems to be the least restrictive.

guess you haven't really looked under your car too good. You won't have room to put a muffler before the wheels. Not enough room. If you do it will be hanging down several inches and be gone the first time you run over something.

Plus in several states it is illegal to have the exhaust exit the vehicle before the end of the passenger compartment. So check you laws before you try or could could end up with a car that can't pass a safety inspection.

Good points, ill definitely have to look into those two points.
Another thing that concerned me was the jack points, would the tubes get in the way of lift arms for some shop lifts, im pretty sure one of the points used to lift the car is on the frame near the back of the passenger side door, but I could be wrong.

dude just dont do it.....one speed bump and your muffler will dent itself shut, talk about restriction.......theres no room, plus what grouch says it may be illegal......

the only way to do it is to do like a bullet muffler. and you might want to put 2 on o keep it some what quiet.

exhaust layout looks good. like others mentioned ground clearence will be an issue.
there are compaines that offer oval tubing which could help some. biggest thing will be the muffler. unless you customize the exhaust tunnel you wont be able to do much more than a 4" or 6" round and y out of it.

as for the down pipe... good idea but it doesn't help much
the manifolds are also very poorly designed.
on the subject though. random tech used to make a new downpipe that was 2.75" I belive with a high flow cat. not sure if they still do or not.
But headers are your best bet for the most power.

few things...by "coupler" you mean flex pipe, if so, its not really worth changing that out without headers

i think nobody's done side exhaust because the idea is dumb, is your car stock besides this? that will really look goofy

also, if you wanted "free flowing" exhaust you wouldn't be using a flowmaster 40, they're nicknamed flowstoppers for a reason.... if you wanted "maximum flow" use a magnaflow or borla univeral muffler, there strait through designs.

and the pipes cant go real close to the car....you will be crossing the fuel lines

if you want a system with maximum flow, get a highflow cat, SLP mandrel bent pipe, but dont use the slp muffler, use a strait through muffler, like a magnaflow. and do twin exhaust like stock. that will flow more than well enough......probably to well. thats why when im doing it i wont bother with the mandrel bent, just regular 2.5

plus your exhaust can't be really short, the pipes need some length. people have tried electric cutouts....basically chopping the exhaust off after the cat (or wherever you put the cutout) and you loose MASSIVE amounts of torque
