Is this a metal on metal sound you're hearing, or just a very faint rattle that you can really only hear if you're listening for it?
Metal on metal - possibly 2 things I can think of:
1) An exhaust hanger broke and somewhere the exhaust pipe is lightly touching something, which would rattle exactly what you're describing
2) The exhaust manifold heat shield is slightly loose and rattles at low idle as the engine shakes
Faint rattle - it's a noisy engine and the engine vibrates a lot at low idle. It's normal, mine does the same thing.

Yep, mine definitely idles at about 600 at operating temperature. Auto transmissions idle lower than manuals...yours is a 5 speed, which is why it won't idle that low.

I have a 2.4 with the same thing as well.. and spilner listed 2 causes of it in his list.
Something is vibrating in my exhaust a bit.. just a simple case of welding that i havent had done yet.
also my engine is a little noisy, idles high, guess just bc its really high mileage =/
other than that it runs like clockwork

My 2.4 Auto idles at 550-600, wish I could get to idle at 700-800 because the rough idle goes away then. Drives me crazy and with the AC on it feels like the doors are going to fall off !
As for your question check your hood latch in the front, mine did the crap and I put some duct tape around the hoop where the hood closes on and it went away. But then again yours could be totally different...

Yall know you can idle the car up. Wouldn't recommend it but to each his own. I have the 2.4L and mine idles at about 600rpm was lower then that until I changed my spark plugs.

Hey...that happened to me about a week ago, first change the plugs and let me know how that goes
it may just be that you put bad gas in your car...after about a week of trying to figure mine out it just stopped so i think it was bad gas
another idea is your ignition coils may be bad...there is an elaborate test procedure that takes about an hour to do that i could write out for you if you want me to...just let me know how the plug change goes first should you do that
