I am so confused
Ok, so the other day my buddy gave me a new infinity head unit, that was waaaay nicer then my existing blaupunkt. so i took it apart and put the infinity in. no power. nothing worked. so i figured out that power wasnt coming out of the harness so i bought a new one and then the power worked. it turned on and everything seemed to work. only problem- no sound comes out of the headunit. all the speakers are wired up correctly and no sound. sound does however come out of the RCA inputs on the back. i thought it might be the headunit so i tried putting the blaupunkt back in.. same problem. all fuses are good power is getting to it but none of the speakers work... any idea whats wrong? (one of my buddies who used to install car stereos for a living looked at it and hes stumped too. help!

something is either hooked up wrong, or you connected a wire that shouldn't be connected.

turn it on, having it playing something, and wiggle the wiring/harness. maybe a bad/pinched connection?
are your connections twisted or soldered?

yep. definitely double check all those, and move then around while its playing.
for a while, i had one that'd move a little... and it would cause my left front speaker to fade out, about half way. lame.

twisted and taped for the loss. I mean I have done it in the past, but its better to take the time to do it right so you dont have to worry about it in the future. Just my .02. The wire twists are nice, and dont tend to allow movement/come undone like with tape. Or you could solder (sp?) them.

Yes something might be loose.
Also, for shits and giggles.
Your remote turn on wire should end up connecting to a pink (1999-2000) or a dark green (2001+) on the factory side of things.
Make sure thats hooked up and see what happens then?

Ok so basically everything got hooked up right by my buddy's friend. he said the wiring went bad somewhere and he fixed it. but now the only problem is that the head unit wont completely turn off- even when the car is off with the key out and doors locked after 20+ minutes. it keeps showing the time. the only way i can see to make it "turn off" is to just take the faceplate off. does that cut all power to it? what could fix the head unit so it will turn off completely when i press the power button like on my last one

on my deck... if you hold the power button (the source button) it will turn off. And on my old car... the deck was connected to 12v constant power... so i just took the faceplate off whenever i didn't want to use it... it was also good for remembering to take it off so people wouldn't steal it.

Now hes got all the power hooked to a constant power, no switched power.
Your friend doing this is a tool. Get it done right with proper connections. Then never ever ever EVER let the tool touch your system again.
My friend in Medina should be able to get you set up proper. Let me know if you want his info I will pm it to you.

i'm pretty sure it cuts all power if you take the faceplate off... the faceplate is what turns everything on and such... and even if there is a blinking led (some have it for security feature) it wont use enough power to drain your battery.
i would think your safe for now... but hook it up properly when you get the time. so much easier.
i could leave the music playing in my old car for 8 hours (not loud mind you) and not once did my car have problems starting... and it was a 6 year old battery
but see what the pros say... i'm just a newb on here
