Gas gauge out of wack
Recently when my gas tank level gets down to a quarter tank left the guage needle does not read correctly. It moves up and down very frequently even when im on level surfaces. Whenever I am really low on fuel the needle will go up to full and eventually come down. I know a kid that might have had this problem before and said it was the gauge itself and it was something magnetic in the guage. Is anyone elses Alero like this? I just don't want to run out of gas, though I never let it get past a quarter tank anymore.

ya, it's a common problem it's the sensor on the pump, you gotta drop the tank i think to change it out. mines been like that for a while, ya learn to count mileage eventually.

Same problem here.
The last 1/3-1/4 tank isnt very linear in usage.

Strange. I get 300-320 and somehow still have 2 gallons in the tank...
If thats all the mileage your getting you obviously dont practice prevenetive maintenance...

170 miles?
Then it must not be stock...
Because if its properly maintained it will get within a certain % of the estimated mileage.
I cant believe some of you are only getting 170-200 miles for 14 gallons of gas. Thats just TERRIBBLE!

he's got forced induction...hehe 170 on a turbo V6 is actually quite good.
my stock 2.4L motor gets about 200 city, and 350 highway. Needless to say, I practice my launch at every red light.
but back on topic: just refill your tank every 150 miles to be safe. besides, with winter coming up, you shouldn't let your tank get below half-full anyway.

that's not supposed to be good for your car, but it's sure good for your mental health LD
(God knows I could use a little mental repair)
