No Power Steering/Loss of all fluid and no pressure!

I just woke up this morning and tried to steer my car out of the driveway only to notice a cracking sound and or a sound similar to the one associated with the wheel hub assemblies when they go bad. I sopped my car, got out and looked under the car to see power steering fluid leaking out. Does anyone know how costly it ca be to repair the power steering? For now I've got a good mechanic/friend coming to check my car out this morning. I'll post more later as I find out.

Thank you weatherman for the coldest winter day of 2008 so far in the Northeast NYC area.

At one time I was told ~$400 for a re-man rack, then labor. If it's just the reservoir, I'd guess a lot less.

Lewis said it was 0 deg in the neighborhood, all the way up to 2 on the freeway this morning. BRR!!

it was cold enought that the cheap clamp they use from the factory to hold the hose on didn't hold. Look at the hoses, see if one is off, then just put it back on with a real hose clamp and fill it up. Hoses coming off in cold weather are a very common problem with any vehicle in the cold.

I can't see any clamps that would lead me to beleive its just a hose, but the area the power sterring fluid is coming from is underneath inbetween the front L/R wheels and I can't see anything else.

x2!

easy to change out! well not half a day for me.. like 30min to 1 hr.

If your doing it yourself, you will need to buy the power steering pump pulley tool. It will install and remove it. Can be found at autozone. Don't get one from oreilly, theres is only the pulley remover. But you can also rent the tool too at autozone instead of buying one. renting just need a deposit, buying the tool is like 15-20 bucks.

Thanks. I just found out that the hose underneath running near the rack is completly destroyed. The new hose plus labor and tax is running me about $250.00 +/- a few dollars.
