Is there any easy way to remove pinstripes? Even if there's a hard way, how do you do it? I've got a 2000 model year with (probably) original pinstripes, and i need them removed.

just heat them up with a heat gun or blow dryer or something and peel away...or you can use some kerosene or whatever...either way sucks

i used sticker remover spray and a fingernail, any way you do it sucks and takes for ever but its worth it, cleans up the look of the car alot. be prepared to invest several hours sitting alongside your car. good luck.

Y'know, on my old white alero I had black pinstriping and thought it looked good. On my new black one, it doesn't have it...my dad offered to put some on but I definately think it looks better without. I got lucky and got one that came without!

When I took it off I gathered some friends and we got it done in liek 15 mins. Then there was sticker residue and I used some wrong kind of solvent some guy told me to use and it dulled the surface. I heard goo gone is good for it.

Well most likely they're vinyl stripes, not painted. Then you could use any of the products like here-

http://products3.3m.com/catalog/us/en001/a...ler/output_html

If they're painted, just wipe them off with a little lacquer thinner.

Thanks! Will try the goo gone first (with fingernails), then the 3M stuff if nothing else works. Some of it I can get off with just fingernails (it is somewhat deteriorated). I like the idea of inviting some friends er though-much faster!
-Will kerosene dull the surface?

I took mine off without using anything... they just peeled right off. Afterwards, get a carwash so the lines go away and it'll look like they were never there

I've always heard that there is a risk of the paint being faded around the area where the pin stripe was (or any dedcal was for that matter)...is this true???

Depending on how long the stripes have been on the car, you may have some oxidizing on the paint surface in the areas surrounding the stripe. If it's really noticeable, get a clay bar and go over the area, or the whole car for that matter if the oxidizing is that bad.

What exactly is a clay bar? And how would "goof off" be bad for the car? (Kind of late now)

Well I used it to remove the car dealer sticker on the back of my car and it took off the clear coat as soon as it touched my car!!!

Well, I used Goof Off along with a heat gun-haven't noticed anything-still seems to shine-maybe I just got lucky-or I'll notice later. Either way, its a done deal now!
