Speaker Wire

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2117939

worth spending the money on?

i need about 100' ~16ga. Would this be any better then say...

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2049734

obviously price is significantly different... but is it justified? It seems like monster puts alot of nonsensical jargon on their advertising to try to get people to buy something that just sounds fancy, and does nothing different.

Their HIGH end stuff is great... but is this high end? How good can copper speaker wire really get?

I hate paying a higher price for stuff like that, but most of those "name brand" speaker wire companies actually do something to the mix of metals in the wire for better conductivity. Of course take that with a grain of salt cause they could just be saying that, but that is what you should be paying for. I actually use scraps of a high quality 12ga power wire that I use at work.

You get what you pay for nowadays!!

Both wires you have selected suck.

Any wire with a "flux tube" means theres a plastic tube inside the wire bundles. which sucks ass IMO.

the brown wire looks like crap.

Regular old copper speaker wire is the best. Wal mart has good speaker wire. Just get proper size. I use 14 all around for doors/tweets. 10 on subs.

the brown wire is plain speaker cable.

your logic seems flawed. walmart has good plain copper wire... but radioshack's plain copper wire isn't good.

that makes no sense at all.

http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=1518
seems to be your basic copper wire. nothing fancy... just price is jacked up for monster's name.

nvm... won't waste my money there.

Walmart pwns Radioshack

While I can't comment on speaker wire;
I have both monster and ebay basic HDMI cables and they look the same and sound the same for my TV so I would not worry about a name

hdmi quality will only matter if you have a HUGE (50+ inch) 1080p, 120hz tv, with full bluray support.

so i guess i have to settle with these then...

No my logic isnt flawed.

I hate wire with plastic tubes in them, like that Monster wire. What you have here is a marketing gimmick that sheeple fall into. Sure if I break out my Geiger counter there may be a difference in Monster wire and the cheap wire from Wal Mart. But its not worth it, or the hassle of a plastic tube in my wires...

Wal Marts speaker wire (the amber/orange and blue stuff in a roll) is decent stuff. Ive used it in a few cars without an issue.

When dealing with wire:

1) More strands = more flexible

3) Just because it says 4 awg doesnt means its a true 4 awg wire... Some companies lie. Some put 8 awg worth of wire into a 4 awg sheath and tell you its 4 awg wire...

4) Pure copper Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) is the stuff to buy.

Dont buy this stuff either:
http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDe...ID=KAR16SS-100

Its a REAL PITA to use. You will hate it by the time your done wiring whatever.

Its two wires twisted up and cast in a clear sheathing... Just take 4 Ga, remove the copper wire and put two twisted wires with their own sheathing inside and thats what that wire is... Its hard to strip/use.

What I hate about Monster is they don't specify the actual gauge of their wire.. anywhere.

dammit. i figured twisted would be better for clarity, rather then just flat twin lead wire.

I just got 100' of 12ga off ebay. It's probably closer to 14ga but it was only $32 shipped.

http://cgi.ebay.com/SPEAKER-WIRE-50-... A1%7C294%3A50

If youre really concerned about signal loss Id spend my money on RCAs, Monster 401s are nice
