Exhaust that Increases MPG?
I'm curious if any aftermarket exhaust systems have positive effects on the MPG achieved. I don't plan on grabbing one anytime soon, but I do plan to in the future, but I would like to scope out the market a bit and see what's there.
It would also sound a little less like a tractor with a new exhaust

the more efficient the car is, the better mileage you get
mods usually increase MPG

Just exhaust, you'd be looking at maybe 1 MPG.
you really want to mod for MPG. Get an air filter like K&N

A WAI with a K&N filter will be in the future too. I just wanted to make sure that any exhaust system I got wouldn't decrease my fuel efficiency in any way.

^^^^18 mpg with a 2.4 and stick? You need a tune up my friend....or you just drive your car pretty hard I get 27mpg city/highway (summer) and about 18-21mpg city/highway (winter) with my 6.
and yes....an exhaust will increase mpg. Get an intake, headers and exhaust and that will really make it run more efficient. The only reason your mpg's would drop is if you drive it hard (which your more likely to do when you have a full exhaust )

I would say 2-3 tops for mpg. performance would be a gain. I have headers and cat for the 2.2 I need to get rid of

I do drive it kind of hard
18-20 is normal for me. For 100% city. 22 if I'm lucky. I think i did like 26-28 on my trip to PC this last weekend. But a 6 will always get better mpg than a 2.4, it doesn't work as hard.

incorrect adding cylinders increases fuel consumption...My 2.2 ecotec has only been averaging 23 mpg though i have gotten 34 before...It has original o2 sensors at 154,400 miles and they are very slow to adjust the fuel trim...my cat is also at the beginnings of fouling out...sometimes on harder pulls it will smell like sulfur. Your car has something wrong with it + how hard you drive to get the mileage you are getting end of story

The ecotec does get better mpg, but if you compare the 3400 vs the 99+ 2.4 on gaoc. The 3400 will always meet or beat the 2.4. In the 96-99 it way better. Nothing is wrong with my car other than 2 bad hubs. I just drive it hard, and always shift at 3500.

in what way are they bad...is it just the sensor in them is bad or is the physical hub bad...if the physical hub is bad then that adds increased friction and heat and would account for some of your mpg...look at some of the gas mileage threads there are tons of ld9s that average upper 20's to lower 30's I am sorry but a properly running v6 almost never get better gas mileage than a properly running 4cyl...the turbocharged ld9 on the site gets does better than 30 highway.
