Royal Purple oil filter

Anybody ever try these? Any issues? I went to Pep Boys instead of Wal Mart this time and i saw the RP filter and figured i would give it a try.

I only use either Wix or ACDelco (Non "E" core) filters

ACDelco (not the E core crap made in China ones) were rated just shy of the Mobil 1 and K&N oil filters and at 1/3 of the price (or 67% less whichever you prefer )

IMHO, those oil filters are not worth the money, when you can get almost the same quality for much cheaper

Those crap ACDelco e core filters are made by the same manufacturer who makes Mobil 1 and K&N, Champion Labs.

how exactly do you know if you have the bad ACdelco filters? My dad got a bunch from one of his GM buddies who retired and thats what I use on my car.... I typically use the PF-52 instead of the PF-47 because it allows for more oil and has more filtering surface....

I wouldn't say its bad, just made with a plastic cage instead of a metal one. Look down the screw hole of the filter at the cage on the inside, if its black it is probably e core(plastic) or the steel cage being the "good" one.

been kicking around getting the "52" for a while over the "47"

Good idea?

I did buy a K&N filter once. Actually drove with it in the car to ASS 05 or 06 and usually that oil change is the only one I put 3000 miles on and the filter had leaked a little bit, just a little, but at $11 a filter, I don't expect it to leak.

That's not why I wouldn't buy it again though. Could have been something I did. For me, it's just the price vs "worth it" value

I've noticed no negative effects of using a pf-52 if thats what you are asking. It takes a little more oil to fill the car up, but it seems like it stays cleaner a little longer too. I do oil changes between 4K and 5K now and sometimes I question why I am changing the oil because it looks nearly new still.

if the oil looks still nearly new after those long distances then your filter is not doing its job when you change your oil you really want it to be dark because your getting rid of all the bad stuff ( at least this is what I have always been told ) when your oil comes out new like its hasnt been broken down and allowed for the additives to work properly and keeping your engine cool, less friction, more power

I just buy Purolator filters and I don't worry about it. Even on my beater (a 1995 Ford Escort with over 200K miles on it) and am using the Purolator Pure One filter:

I'm being completely honest! It may be because I drive all highway miles, no dirt roads, etc. but it stays amazingly clean. I wouldn't say it is as clean as the day it goes in, but it is by no means "black". just slightly darker. I run Mobil 5000 now and I swear its the best conventional oil ever!
