Bypass Monsoon Amp

Hey everybody, new member here.

So, I've got a 2004 Alero. Stock HU did not say Monsoon on it, but I have the stock amp back in the trunk. I replaced the HU with an Alpine CDE-121.

Everything works great, sounds good, lost my chimes, but no big deal. Everything is good. Except... my volume stepping is crazy. Volume 2 is a whisper, and volume 3 is shaking the car.

From what I've been told, the Monsoon amp is just a POS and I'm better off just wiring the HU directly to the speakers, and that'll fix my volume problem too. Is that what needs to be done?

And if so, how to I bypass the amp? I don't really want to run new cables. I've looked at the Monsoon pinout here (yes, I used the search button), and everything is output..no input. So I'm confused.

Thanks ahead of time.

Welcome. Thanks for using the search button!

Hopefully someone knows what's up, because my volume is acting just like yours. But I'm not sure if I even have the monsoon system..

Here's a thread from a GA site, same thing though. Should clear up the input output question too.

I don't think your sound should be jumping that high so quickly though. How did you wire in the new unit?

I'll try that jumping tomorrow.

And yeah, it's weird. The new unit is just in using a standard harness, nothing special.

Monsoon amp is completely bypassed, but my volume is still jumping crazily.

And no, I won't be. :/

Working. I'll be in Cali.

Side note. I think I found the problem (at least for my Alero). The stock speakers have a higher efficiency rating and take less power to drive them. Aftermarkets would fix the problem it seems.
