I swear that car has a mind of its own...

So as some maybe saw I am having a misfire problem with my car since this week, which happened just after repairing my water outlet that had cracked in the block. (I can't really see how this is related, but who knows.)

I also have a problem with my car idling too high since like last november, but I got used to having my car idle at 1400 rpm. I always thought I have a vacuum leak somewhere that I could never find before, even after countless attempt to find it.

And last of all, my ABS and Red brake light are both on since january, but this one I think it has to do with the BCM. I don't really care about this one for now because car brakes fine, just no ABS.

So Today I started to diagnose what could create those misfire. I already went thru all the basic I could before buying new parts. first I thought Spark plugs, but if it was indeed the spark plugs, problem would not be intermittent. Second I thought Spark plug boots, because I never changed them and maybe they started to dry a bit and ark. So I went to NAPA this morning and bought 4 spark plug boots for 30 bucks, not bad.

Installed those right after, started the car and drove off. Car sputtered on the first few corners just like if I was missing gas. My SES was on from when it coded on the misfire. Still the car made no misfire after that. I parked the car and figured I should disconnect the battery to clear the SES Light. So I let the car sit unplugged for 4 hours because I took a nap.

Woke up, went to the car, plugged the battery back. Started the car, no SES light on and SURPRISE!!!! My high Idle is no more... Car idles at 950 like it always did before and it is constant. So I take off to bring the car to running temp. Car drove like a charm, never drove better than this since last summer. I did a good 40 miles with the car, on city and highway and the car pulled strong and idle was still fine (YAY!!!) .

On the way back home, on the highway, misfires again... SES light flashing, engine not running on all cylinders, again. BUT My Idle is still fine at 950? WTF?!

I was almost home so I made it and parked the car, which was sputtering hard from not firing from all 4 cylinder. Turned the car off, and started it again. Idle still at 950 but intermittent misfires.

Ok, next step is to replace the ignition coil under the IDI cover, sucks for 100 bucks...

What I really wonder is why is my Idle problem fixed like magic? For those of you that will tell me "You disconnected your battery, and computer resetted" I will tell you this, in my countless effort to fix my high idle, I already tried to unplug my battery a dozen times and half those times were for more than one hour. I did not do anything to any vacuum lines or gasket on the car since about 2 months. I'm more than confused. Can spark plug boots have any relation with having high idle?!

At this point, I am just waiting for my car to transform into BumbleBee

Ok, changed both ignition coils this morning, and it wasn't it. Goddamn...

I also noticed that the problem is only happening when the car is fully warmed up.

could a clogged cat cause this type of problem?
