Hood scoops

I was looking at some hood scoops on ebay and wondering if they are worth it.

I see people with them on the car, but some guys have them molded right to the hood.

How much will it bring the underhood temp down? Are they worth it?

if you get a functional one it wont do really anything, the hot air will escape but u wont get a lot more performance. and DONT buy that damn lund scoop like i did. its kinda gay. but wait till u see my hood in march

yeah if you just get a stick on scoop, it wont do anything.
you could mold it on like pimp, or if you wanted you could mold it on and cut out the underside of the hood, but then your pretty much stuck with it like that forever

I am working on a hood project soon, i am getting a hood scoop and molding it to my hood. Then cutting a whole to allow the air to come in, putting a flap on the outside of the hoodscoop to keep water from coming in, untill i hit a certain speed and it will open. I am also putting hood vents, on either side of the hood scoop, its got like 5 vents total, and all together its like 2 1/2 feet by 1 foot wide, i am also cutting that out of my hood. Making sure i don't bunny with the hood braces, i will add a support bar under it. So now the cold air shoots into the engine bay and the hot air will be released. I have always wanted to do this since i got my car because the engine bays are way too hot. Oh each whole i put in the hood, i am going to purcahse a custom filter for ...

the stick on ones are just for looks...nothing else...they look good and they arent that hard to get off if you use the 3m tape...if you screw it or bolt in on by some means have fun with that...there was a guy on here a couple of months ago wanting to get rid of his hood and scoop because you used some kind of glue or something to hold it down...they are pretty much for temporary use only...dont screw them on by any means...just my $.02

here`s my 2 cents:
if ya bought a fiberglass scoop it would be easier to mold in
but again as we all have noticed companies out there have not produced any type of hood for our car
knights performance was goin to and now it`s dead
so that tells me our cars just aren`t meant to have different hoods
maybe the cf hood go with that looks good too
i guess our cars just aren`t as popular as the cavy or grand am to where companies will produce parts for our cars
i say stick with the stock hood

could you, cut out the hood, and custom make an intake that would fit up in the opening? and put something up for water?

s/c alero has the gran prix hood vents...the small ones and has two holes in the hood for these.

the only way to get anything good done is to have it done custom yourself, any competent body shop can do a good job if you give them the money and an idea of what you want....looks or function or both.

personally i will be going with stock hood modified for venting prolly with a warbird hood scoop...aka ws6 t/a glass scoop from USEXOTICS

i know it does look huge in that pic because of the different color and its not molded on, but this is one of the few that im kida stuck between.....see im gonna go with the turbo kit, and would like to try and find a way to vent some of the underhood heat, and since the turbo sits where the battery is, i dont really think a scoop on the driver side of the car would look good....so im only really tryin to go for function....so im still lookin

nah i mean it will fit...... and i agree about the difference in color makin it look alot bigger....... but the warbird scoops are very tall....... u dont notice it till u see it in person.

would be interesting to see on an alero though.

ever thought about a cowl induction hood????

i know one person is thinkin about having one made for there car. seems like another doable option

sweet.^^...i was also considering the cowl, but not sure how that would look either, i havent really seen any mock up pics, and i only have a couple of old school scoops layin around, and they dont look good....l88, and mopar super stock

but as long as i can vent some under hood heat..and look cool as well...ill be happy :thumbsup:

they would have made the hood if we would have had our down payment on it sent in. But for now were screwed

dammm...that does look good. i figure if i can put on that style, a lil toward the winsheild, i shouldnt have probs with water, but will be able to get the heat out as well. although i will keep the stock hood cuz i imagine carbon would be expensive, as would a glass hood. those will have to wait till next tax season prolly
