When I'm driving in snow, sometimes it helps to have it off to get me goin.

Also, people turn it off at the track because it would slow them down I guess.

the traction control system for are cars is simple, it limits the revs to around 3500 RPM (for the 2.4) and upshifts to help prevent wheel spin. If you didn't turn this off at the track you would loose a good amount of time if you spun a little on the start.

I turn mine off in snow/ice because if it senses the wheels spin it will apply brakes to try and catch better traction, so in snow it can actually prevent you from starting to move at rest.

Thats not true, the trac system doesn't apply the brakes at all. it doesn't hurt performance if you don't break the tires loose but it will prevent you from getting past 3500 RPM and will decrease performance if the tires do spin. Does that help?

he means when your tires spin and you lose traction, the ETS keeps the RPMs under 3500 RPM

this thread is full of noobers

its quiet simple how it works, if the cars computer sense's the car has lost traction, it will basically bog your engine until you catch traction again and then it will allow you to give it gas freely.

i've noticed that it kills my fuel economy. when i keep it off in snowy conditions, my gas lasts alot longer., idk if its conincidence or if there's a reason behind it. i find it to be a pain in the ass in very icy or deep snow conditions. it works ok in light, not so slippery snow. i do love the ABS brake systems in our cars tho. IMO, the alero and grand am anti locks are awesome compared to any other ABS equipped vehicle that i've ever driven

you get bad gas MPG in the winter because of the winter blend fuel plain and simple.
