2.2 to 3.4 swap
What all would I need to change if I were to swap my 2002 ecotec for a 2000 3.4? I'm sure I would need the motor, tranny, harness, computer, exhaust, and fuel pump. Is there anything else? Would I need the BCM as well as the PCM? Has anyone successfully done this?
BTW, I'm not looking for better performance or anything like that, my 2.2 just has 185,000 with the tranny going out. And I've found a wrecked 2000 with very low miles for dirt cheap.

I would find a used 2.2. Honestly by the time you finish you will have spent more on peripherals to make it work than you would have spent finding another motor that will fit.

Even with a complete donor car?

I'm not sure but you know how projects always cost more than you expected. For ease of work I would just keep looking for a wrecked 2.2 car. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Finding the 2.2 ecotec shouldn't be too hard, GM put that engine in a lotta cars.

Yeah, I was just looking at a good deal and hoping it would be relatively easy to pull off. 22,000 mile car for $600 is almost too good to pass up.
Will all 2.2 Ecotecs work in an 02 Alero? Or are newer models (05+) different? If this info is already posted somewhere, and easily found by searching, I apologize. Quick search yielded nothing.

a 2.2 eco from a grand am would fit right in perfectly. As for other cars I don't see why not. If its the same engine code, other 2.2 ecos from other cars should work as well.

True. The 05+ uses electronic throttle instead of cable driven...there's probably other things that are different as well.

Some of the '05s are still the same. The main thing is that you don't want one with VVT (which happened in '09)

I thought I had heard there was a difference. Are the trannys the same, that's my biggest concern right now.

Like everybody said, stick with the 2.2 Eco, plus you might still have some time
