anyone ever done the "big 3", ive heard of it, and i think i know what it is

battery to chassis wire
alternator to battery
chassis to engine

what size wire would i use? 0/1 gauge? stock looks like about 8 gauge. also, do i tear the old stuff out for the new stuff, or add on? i read somthing saying you should just add on, but couldn't that creat a ground loop?

and you have to fuse the wire going from the alternator to the battery? does the stock wire have a fuse? what happens when people replace the 95 amp alt with a 160amp alt, ive never heard of the stock fuse blowing.

lastly, where are all these connections? id save me some time crawling under my car, its already a pain to jack it up, i have to have someone lift the car as i slide the jack under.....damn springtechs!

thanks for any input!

2 or 4 gauge is all thats needed. 0/1 is overkill. I have 0/1 going from my battery back to my distrubution block.

Then again, I have the 160amp alternator, and I haven't bothered to upgrade the wiring yet. Probalby will eventually, just one of those things I can care less about at the moment.

I would love a little more info on this. Has anyone done this to our cars? Is it a smart thing to do? I just bought a yellow top for my system and was wondering if this would increase its effectiveness by doing this?

Yes doing the "big 3" will help you.. it helps a stock charging system.

I am going to do and all that is Really needed is 4awg from battery to chassis/ and to engine, allso 4 guage from alternator to batt, and from batt to starter, and from battery to the main connection to the fuse panel.

when i do mine im going to replace all the stock wires, allthou i have added a second battery ground before.. and it seemed to have no ill effects.. but who know..

It won't hurt anything to leave the stock wires. Electricity travels along the path of least resistance. The only problem that might arise is ground loops but if you use the stock ground locations you shouldn't have any problems.

If anyone has done this or is gonna do this I think it would make an excellent topic in the "how to" section. I am really interested in doing this and would love a little more input as to how.
