Hey everybody..im really in a jam...i just baught a new head unit from best buy. i liek to do install on my own. iT was all easy untill i got to this red wire that was in a little bag and i had no idea were it goes. when i called best buy they told me it goes some where in my ign. harness and that they cant tell me anymore because they are not intalling it. theres power to the deck(cd'd ejects) but nothing is displayed on the head unit. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME! :wah: Best buy said it will never work inless this wire is hooked up.

sounds like your constant power is connected (cd will eject, even with the key out) and that red wire goes to a power source that is only "hot" when the key is on... try running it to the sunroof fuse on the passenger side with a temporary wire, and see if that works... if it does you can leave it there, or tap into a wire from the ignition that is "hot" with the key on.

but crap there is one more proble i know where the wire goes on teh car put where does it go on teh head unit/ wireing harness..help again please!

honestly i couldnt tell you.... the harnesses differ from stereo to stereo

nothign that mentioned the little red wire..just a basic diagram of how to wire the harness. i read over that thing 10 times and know where does it mention the red wire.

Red wire will be called 'ignition' or 'switched power' or 'accesssory power' or something like that

yup, you have to run it to an ignition source 12v. You can use a fuse tap to tap into the fuse block.

ok so this goes to 12V were does the outher end go...do i splice it with soem wire in the harness?

Cant he just splice it into the factory harness turn on wire and have it work?

The factory "turn on wire" eh? LOL
Easiest is to tap a fuse, like the wipers or something that is on only when the car is.

You mean its just a loose wire?
You need to run the power wire from your deck, to a 12V source. This is because our factory harnesses don't actually have an ignition power wire. Don't put it to your harness.

know inless i fogot to mention this the deck. has power to it but nothign on the display or sound....i have a red loose wire with a connector on the end liek it hooks to a tab our something..this wire goes to a 121v source then this goes to my cd deck...but theres is no hole or connector for this wire on my deck...srry if i keep talking about this topic but i need to know! thanks!
