Alright, so I have everything I need to install this pioneer headunit I just got. I read somewhere that you had to remove your gear shifter and disconnect a bunch of things in order to remove your factory radio? Is this true?

Is there an easier way to remove the radio? Is there any websites that give instructions on how to do this?

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks

Yeah I read that. I was hoping there were more detailed instructions. Some of those seem sorta vague. And I was hoping there was an easier way but apparently there isnt..

I dont need to unscrew anything? It all just pops out? Will a flathead screwdriver work?

flathead screw driver will work to pry the trim (just be careful not to break anything)... they only thing you will have to unscrew are the screws that hold in the radio itself....

yeah, it's all snap, crackle, pop.....except you don't usually wanna hear the crackle lol

Also, i'd recommend that when prying the final bit of trim from around the radio, be careful where you put the screwdriver and how you pry because it'll leave marks in the trim since it is really soft plastic. (just be very gentle and you'll be fine)

Agreed. After the first time you will be a pro. Of course, I had 60 percent of my car linterior in my living room for four months. Here is a tip. Never start big projects until you know that you have the time and good enough weather to finish. Otherwise you will spend alot of time explaining to your better half that the house is not going to be turned into a junk yard.

easiest way is to remove the trim around your radio slide your shifter into first gear, lift up the trim around the shifter then pull the trim around your radio out but remove the screws that hold your ac nobs on and it should slide right out.

They must have changed the climate control. My 03 doesn't have any scews holding the ac knob. The climate control comes right out with the trim and the knob just pulls off.

Did you get the xm with your 04 model? My 03 has a xm connector that is exactly the same shape as the AC power plug. I swapped them on accident the first time I changed my HU. My climate control went real wacky and I thought I had fried something. It took me about fifteen minutes to realize they were the same plugs.

Oh yeah. So was my buddy from work. I had the car in our fab shop. I think he just wanted to see me throw something. Oh the joys of "doing it yourself".
