Doing it right...

I thought I would share this with everyone as its very important.

Theres a reason why I stress doing things the "right" way. I know many of us have seen some rigged installs. Some of us may be guilty.

Theres a safety factor involved her people either dont realize or forget about.

Anyone ever tell you that you may burn your car down or have a car fire?

I remember hearing that rhetoric when I installed my first system...

Well on Saturday it actually happened in my small village of 1,400 people. The Cop told me he received report of a car fire. He got behind said car as it was in motion and there was sparks/flames like from underneath it. Once stopped smoke came from the hood and there was an explosion and parts flew from the gille of the car.

Evidently the guy made statement he just installed his new system.

I havent figured out who it is yet, but if I do I want to talk with them about it and see what they did.

Sounds like the person ran the cable under the car or through the hood hinge/door hinge areas. Probably got pinched and shorted out. Probably next to the FUEL lines...

Do it right guys! For your own good!

His car is a total loss. Guess it was like a mid 90;s or so Olds Cutlass.

Never taken that route, have always ran things where less caution is needed, along with solder, then shrink tube, finished with a layer of electrical tape. My father was very picky about anything automotive and I was expected to follow it the way he did it.

My dad was the same way when I did my stuff. He was an audio dude "back in the day", so he was sure that I ran all my lines correctly.
Wouldn't let me cheat. . .its best that way I think.

LOL some guy had his STI at Speed Industry and the amplifier/capacitor caught on fire while I was there working on my car.

Jan came up to talk to me like "You makin all that smoke?" I'm like "What smoke?" he turns around and sees the STI and is like "OH SHIT!" and runs to go put it out.

Actually I think the funniest car audio mishap I got to fix was at work. The "co-worker" said that her stereo just didn't sound right after her boyfriend had hooked it up for her and her subs weren't working, I said that I would take a look at it for her and find out the problem. Well it turns out that the boyfriend, one, bridged the sub on an unbridgeable amp and blew out quite a few capacitors(BOSS Comp Amp), secondly there was a bad ground for the deck so I fixed that up.

I wish I had picks of this, there was a big messy clump of electricle tape holding the wires together, so unknowingly I start unwrapping the little present and that is when I find that the wires hadn't been soldered but had been together with merets for house hold electrical . I have never LOL'D so hard in my life

These people amaze me. It wouldn't have taken much more effort to do it the right way.

People just need to take their time and research before they jump into things.

...some people have no place under the hood of a car and need to learn to accept this.

We're all good at something, right?

well i wouldn't say never under the hood again, just stay away from the electronics if you are too lazy to do it right.
