little bit of whine

hey everybody.

i have a quick question... answer may seen obvious but i've already tried fixing it.

i have 2 amps and a crossover in my backseat.
a alpine mrp-m1000 amp for my subs and works fine
and a old clarion 2 channel amp that puts out 75w rms
and a jensen crossover connected to the clarion amp.

so heres my problem. the clarion amp has a small amount of alternator whine. its nothing crazy but it is just a small amount. and is only noticeable and quiet levels. subs don't have any whine

i have the 2g (i think... or maybe 1g) power wire running on the driver side to a distribution block that goes to the amps and crossover.
i have everything grounded to the bolt that holds the backseat in on the drivers side... you know what i'm talking about i think.

i have the rca's for the subs running on the drivers side (i know wrong, you dont run the power and rcas on the same side, i told my friend that when we were installing and he did it anyways, i plan on changing soon enough). i ran the rcas for the front speakers on the passenger side.

i've heard of adding a small capacitor to the power cable of the amp... but i havent done that.

what should i check next?

I had a cap on mine and I still had whine. I never found out the solution. Everything got stolen last month, that took care of the whine lol

Colonel,
IT IS A GROUND ISSUE! Whine usually comes from improper grounding. If you have all of your equipment going to one ground spot, it could cause a whine. I have mine grounded also under the backseat, yet in multpile areas.
If I remember correctly, my amp that powers my subs is grounded by the bolts on the drivers side of the backseat, while my interior amp is grounded on the passenger side.

I would check and see if that fixes the problem, if not then I would also look into getting a ground loop isolator and hooking it up to your radio.
It plugs into your radio where the RCAs currently are and then the RCAs plug into the isolator. It gets rid of MOST of the whine cause by the alternator.

Ryan from Ohio will become famous soon enough
^ Smurf is on crack.

Grounding to multiple locations may induce a ground loop into your system, which is no good.

First order of business.

Try running RCAs right to the clarion amp, NO crossover. It may be the crossover...

if that doesnt solve it, try a new grounding spot. The rear shock tower works well.

If that doesnt fix it, try regrounding the head unit under the dash.

thanks guys... and i was running rcas right to the clarion amp before the crossover. and it was doing it before. i'll try a new spot i suppose and see how that goes. the headunit is just grounded to the ground wire on the wiring harness.... perhaps i should ground the deck to the car?

the heads easy to ground to that bar in the back behind the headunit, just drill a small hole in it
