I was contacted at aleroupgrades reference the problem listed below. Don't really have a place for it on my site and he okayed me to post it here with his email addy. So if any of you are having the same problem, let him know or contact GM.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Would you consider putting the following on your website, or at least put a
link to this? I need people to contact GM to get them to get a recall on the
inline antenna on the Oldsmobile Alero. GM knows that the inline antenna’s
are faulty and they discontinued them. I would greatly appreciate it if you
could help me out. Feel free to change the following request to your liking.
Thank you.

Alero’s Inline Antenna Problems

My 1999 Oldsmobile Alero Sedan came with an Inline antenna. (The antenna
that is built into the rear window). The radio reception is very poor with
the vehicle. When ever I go under a bridge or go slightly out of distance,
the radio reception is overcome by white noise. Even worse, when I turn on
my rear defroster, all I hear is white noise. I recently spoke with a
customer service representative at Oldsmobile about my antenna not working
correctly. She said. “Oldsmobile has discontinued the design of the Inline
Antenna due to the issue.” I asked if the part has been recalled for the
vehicle. Her reply was “There has not been enough complains for GM to be
able to recall the antenna.” PLEASE ANYONE with the same issues, CONTACT GM
so we can get a recall on the product. Don’t let GM get away with giving us
faulty devices, and knowing that it’s faulty. (hence the reason they
discontinued it.) If you need more info E-Mail me at
Brentblawat@hotmail.com.

Contact GM
Yes, GM still will respond to your inquiries about Oldsmobile Vehicles. Just
because they discontinued Oldsmobile line, doesn’t mean that GM won’t fix
the issue. Write to the following address if you are experiencing the same
issue. Make sure to mention the white noise sound when you write them.

http://www.oldsmobile.com/contactus/talkToUs_email.htm

You can also call toll free, 1-800-932-4368. PLEASE HELP get a RECALL for
this annoying issue. Thank you for your time.

My 03' has the antenea built in the rear window also. I am sure the 04's will be the same way. My radio sucks some, but I live in the mountains and when I get on the interstate it picks up great. I like the looks of the car better with out an antenea sticking out anyway. As for the antenna being discontinued, its not because all the new Alero's still have them.

I've never had a problem with reception on the stock HU. Of course if you go under a bridge you'll lose some signal strength, pick up a book on RF and you'll see why. When I go out on road trips I can drive about 100km away from this one radio station before it starts dropping off.

i had some problems with my stock radio, before but never much the inline atenna. Once I replaced my stock with an aiwa system, I had better radio quality. Also becareful when washing your car , and scratches to the inline can cause you to have bad reception.

I haven't really had any problems with mine. Once in a great while the reception is bad but that's rare. I like the look of no antenna also. Even when my stock radio was in my car the reception was good..I don't kow if that matters though. Good luck with getting GM to recall it. I've been having problems with my turn signals and they just decided to do a recall on 2001 Aleros but GM is not sending out recall notices until the second quarter of next year. Now I am trying to get them to fix this problem for me and I'm getting the run around.

for ppl having the problem with the antenna, If you have tinted your back window you have defeated the purpose of the window antenna (blocking reception). I personally knew the problem because of the older Achieva model I had when I was a kid had it. I recommend purchasing a FUBA antenna or some other power amplified antenna. They work perfect but do go up in a matter of 3 years, I am working on my second now and it is about to go up.

I havent had any problems with my inline atenna. Just with the hazard switch and the turn signal relays lately. I hear that gm is suppose to do a recall next year on the hazard switch!

Honestly if I could complain to GM about anything it would have to be the half-assed passlock security feature that randomly prevents me from getting anywhere in a hurry.

ALRIGHTY! I believe that I have stated this post on the forum before. There is a TSB (technical service bulletin) out for this, released like in 04 for lack of and or poor antenna reception. It is the antenna coupler located right behind the passenger side door still plastic thingy, you can take it out by pulling it out, there is only like 2 clips on the 4 door models..
It literally says, "To fix, reconnect antenna line male end to antenna line female end, wrap in duct tape.

Location of the door plastic thingy that you need to pull off

Notice the duct tape, yeah do this to fix it.
