Oh, getting the tranny is the easy part. It's all the little parts that go with it that are impossible to find used (like the console trim etc..)

yeah, those are parts to find at the yard, i agree it would be hard to find. you may be able to use linkage parts from a 2.2 ecotec, not sure.

yea thats what I was thinkin cuz Id end up needin like a clutch linkage, gotta cut out holes to put the clutch through the floorboards, console, etc. just way too damn much time and money. Ill just keep the auto and rebuilt the engine its fine with me. I just wanted to turbocharge it but ehhh forget it. Ill just make my alero look really good and get that body kit goin on. Atleast I smoked a v6 mustang hahahaha im happy.

You shouldn't have to cut holes, they should already be there, just plugged up. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

Not that I looked at an automatic Alero, but on other cars I've seen the holes have to be drilled in the firewall for the mounting of the clutch master cylinder. The shifter cables usually pass through the same location as the automatic one.

I am not really sure, somebody should check this out. I don't have my Alero anymore and they are not really abundant here in Japan.

Couldn't tell you on an N-body, but the J-body doesn't have the three holes at the top of the firewall for the clutch master cylinder and two mounting bolts. You have to drill them. It's not difficult to figure out where though, the metal has a cut-out in it and it's pretty simple to measure. It was more challenging pulling the dash out to mount the clutch pedal!

Welding in the mounts for the 5 speed was way more difficult.... GM doesn't put the right mounts in the cars for both transmissions, you get one or the other. I had to grind out the auto mounting tabs and weld in the brackets for the Getrag.

But... well worth it. In 2000, you couldn't get a Cavalier Convertible with a 5 speed. If there's nothing else wrong with your car, and you've got the balls to do it... I say swap it!

On the other hand... there's nothing wrong with putting a turbo on an automatic.... just get an Autotrans Interceptor or B&M Shiftplus with some engine mounts to keep it together and shifting well under boost. I've known a couple of auto cars that don't like to shift right at 10+ psi boost.
