So a few weeks ago my driver side belt started acting weird, it would lock up like it would during heavy braking even when the car was turned off and the belt wouldn't retract. It lets go once in a while but the mechanism inside sounds clunky and makes grinding noises. I thought the spool was bad, but today I find out that the passenger side does the exact same thing! They both worked perfectly before that one day, so it must be some relay/fuse/cable problem right? How does the seat belt work, does it use a fuse or relay or something that is activated by the door being open? Please help! I don't want to drive wondering if my seatbelts are going to fail in an emergency!!!
