alright i found time to get a new exhaust. and i kinda went a little all out. since i wanted to be the first to do it.

ok i went with a 2.5 inch pipe, with no cat, no resonator, just a muffler.

they welded the O2 sensor in the straight pipe. and no problems *knock on wood*

the car soudns great, and the power is great. its just when i let off the gas, it makes a sound, like you can hear ever revolution of a piston. (which isnt good sounding)

so it basically sounds like someone is throwing yogurt in my muffler when i let off the gas.

do you think if i put on an aftermarket resonator, it will smooth the sound out?

I don't know about your state but in PA remocing a cat makes your car not street legal, and if your caught, big fines.

You will bring on an SES light in about a week.

Get a cat on it ASAP :Noooo:

It depends on if you ever have emissions testing. I know in Tennessee where you are supposed to have cats, but I've been here for over 8 years and theres never been a testing. And I just added an o/r h-pipe on my car this past week, sounds real mean. By the way I have a Mustang GT. Hope you enjoy your new exhaust setup.

just wondering but what makes you say, i will get the light in exactly oen week?

TN doesnt do emissions testing. i can name and point out so many cars here without a cat. like every redneck with a v8 thinks its required to go straight pipes.

but the exhaust shop didnt have a problem doing this, and if i "got i ntrouble" then they would get in trouble as well, so...........?

Ok, back on topic... Resonators should help with getting rid of the "yogurt" sound. If theres not much back pressure, It will make those noises when you back off the gas and let the engine slow you down. I don't know why people insist on going with "bypass" or "offroad" or whatever pipes. Your not gaining much if anything by doing it, and your going to make it sound like absolute hell and cause inspection issues down the road. Not trying to offend anyone on here, just my $.02 . Just do it right the first time and you'll be so much happier in the long run. My S&S headers, "stock" cat and Borla cat back have been more than flawless and sound perfect for a V6 without any embarrassing popping or any other noises. IMO, it's one of the perfect setup for the Alero and I have gotten quite a few compliments about my exhaust tone while on the dyno. Hope this helps.

right o.

im having a bit of trouble finding a resonator that was similar to the stock one.

the resonators i find seem to look more like mufflers.

I had a high flow cat so the o2 couldn't get a reading, actaully I still have a o2 sim on the car.

The code was P0141 "Oxygen sensor heater circuit malfunction (downstream sensor)"

i see.... what do you think causes this? extreme heat? too much flow?

whats the downside of having that O2 simulator? anything bad about it?

i think i might end up getting one.

i just found a resonator that looks like the stock shape. but its 52$

but Ken, my pipe is 2.5 , do i get a 2.5 (in/out) resonator or do i get a larger or smaller diameter?

It's just too much flow, not that's it's a bad thing, the car's CPU is saying that the car is flowing too much and is letting out too much emissions.

The O2 is good that it keeps your downstream O2 saying that the sensor is reading "ideal" all the time. I hooked my a/f meter up to it once and it stayed at ideal the entire time.

The bad side is that your car will run rich in the cold weather, and they are illegal. But they are so far up under the car, they are hard to see and cannot be detected unless the car is looked at from underneath. Totally modded out, my car still passes emissions with no problem, max range in PA is .96 of CO, my car emits .01, as of the last reading, and 1.32 of another gas and I do .00 of that one.

Don't worry about the resnatior, all that is, is a pipe with ridges inside to change the flow of the exhaust to give it a little bit of sound. Just get a cat, if you're exhasut set up is 2.5" Yes get a 2.5" in and out cat. But $52 is about avg price.

Since you set your exhasut up this way, check on eBay. Just be sure that it's not a hollow cat

hmmmmm. interesting.

but i thought resonators muffle down some of the raspyness.

i think i might wait this out for a week, and see if any problems occur. but resonator is priority first on the exhaust. cause it sounds like ass......

i'll look around for a nice cat, and a possibly a new O2 sensor. cause the old one isnt reuseable anymore

yall do know that you can make an o2 similutator with resistors and a small capacitor from radio shack for like 5 bucks or less. Thats what they are. I can't believe how much they charge for those things.
