2.4L LD9 best for modding.

here is specs for ya................fastest N-body is a turbo 2.4.....see mr. spy.
Actually the best motor for power and modding would be the Ecotec due to all the aftermarket stuff available for it.

The LD9 is fun to mod and once you learn how to unleash the beast on it.
The 3400 also can be fast but not much to say since I havent worked on one, oh and the LIMG leak.
Now the newer 2.2 ecotec has more aftermarket support thus this engine can outperform the top two.
I would like to see a modified LD9 and a ecotec go at it.

the 3400 is all i know so i cant comment on the 4 cyls. But the 3400 is so easy to work on i give it points for that. The main issue for the 3400 is the lack of aftermarket. Milzy and Ben at wot teck are changing that but to make good power you need expensive parts. I am looking forward to a cam from the wot tech store eventually.

That may change when mr. blackjack is finally done.
3400 sounds like a BEAST with just an intake and exhaust, i cant imagine how it will sound when i get headers.......yeaaaaaaaaaaa

The 3400 has more parts becoming available. I don't need to worry about LIMG leaks because there are metal gaskets available. Once felpro releases the metal 3500 gaskets, its all over.
The 3400 takes to boost very well. There are lots of parts that are compatible which most people don't know about I know they run with 12.4:1 on pump gas. Once the double roller timing chains are available, the weak link will be addressed.

thats because its a V6, I cant think of a V6 with exhaust that sounded bad. Hell at one point my old Dynasty had a missing muffler (with the 3.3L) and it sounded badass

Im not too fond of the 3800 exhaust sound. The 60V6 has a 123456 firing order, which helps its exhaust note considerably. One fire every 60 degrees. That isn't the case on the 90V6s.

My car sounded like a beast.
When blackjack is finally done, I'll be back in the game. There's going to have to be some 500hp N-bodies running around if they want to enter this game.

exactly, 90°V6s usually sound like trash in my opinion. Especially any buick 3.8/3800 or chevy 4.3.

Then you've never heard a properly built 3.8 Buick. I had one in my '79 Buick Roadhawk (special package Skyhawk) that most people thought was a V8. I now have a built 4.1 Buick engine the same car. Again, people think it's a small block V8 ... sounds like one and runs like one.

Well, I'd have to hear it (not at idle!) to believe it.

I've never driven an Alero with the 2.4, but my parents have a Sunfire GT A/T with the 2.4 that I drove between my last car and my current Alero. I didn't like the way the 2.4 performed, lots of pep but really rough and unrefined. If I had to choose I would take the 3400 followed by the Ecotech.

well, I know there's alot of speculation pending this build. Truth of it is, mine is powerful, but two things to consider. The V6 weighs a little more than the LD9, and the 4t65 weighs considerably more than the manual. Top that off with the fact that my car is also equipped with power seats/windows/locks, A/C, PS, the whole nine yards.....
I'm not stripping the car down. I'll be running in street trim maybe minus the spare tire and jack. So I've got alot to overcome with this setup. In all honesty, if you can get the same amount of HP/TQ out of a 4cyl/manual setup, there's a definite advantage. We'll have to see how it turns out.
