Subs to stock stereo

I did search and didn't find anything that was of much help. I have Sony xplod rear speakers and they only use one set of the wires so there is another set hanging down. Can I run the power and ground to the amp and then connect that extra set of wires into the amp input and then connect my subs on the output? Probably a dumb question but I want to find a way around a new headunit so I can save myself some cash. thanks.

nope. you need line level converters. converts speaker wire to RCAs.

standard audio shops should carry them, quality varies.

its probly cheaper/easier/more efficient to order a headunit for $90 shipped off sonic electronix with the free dash kit and wiring harness. which will cost you around $20 a piece at ur local best buy

ok i am going to try it with the line converter first and should this fail, I will just order the head unit. Cherrington, I have the line converter, so now what? The two extra sets of wires are hanging down on the rear deck, which wires do i connect to on the converter?

Lol maybe a little rough. Basically, I have heard a lot of problems coming from people regarding the line converters... New head units are always nice. If you plan on getting into car audio, a new head unit is something you want. What subs are you running? If you are pinching pennies i assume pyle or such?

Alright, the converter is in and mounted below the rear deck. Now I just have to run the amp wires and plug it all in. I want to try this first because I don't have the money to spend on a head unit and such right now. Should this not work, I will just wait and save. I have 2 12" Dual subs. Sorry I dont have 500+ to blow on a system. I picked them up off of a buddy for cheap. They work and can hit. That's all I need.

Also, for the amp install, can I splice into the rear amplifier blue and white wire? (Generally the remote wire color)

i assume you have the monsoon system?

then yes. I'd doubt check a wire schematic first though. (we have a link somewhere on site for them)

also... for the LOVE OF GOD, don't run your power wire through the door... use the grommet like an adult.

and if audio quality is of a concern for you, I'd agree with the others. After all these years of being on here, the line level converters are a temp thing... while you save money for the proper setup. I hope they last a little bit for ya.. but usually, its the stepping stone.

btw, ryan is exceedingly harsh sometimes, but its only because experience makes him grumpy. (that and old age. )

If you have that monsoon amp that converter is not going to work. I believe that amp clips below 80hz on the rears and has a built in passive crossover for the fronts.

Yes the Monsoon system probably has equalization and crossover functions off the "amp".

In my experience of over 14 years, LOCs are almost always crap. Theres almost always noise or tuning issues- especially when inexperienced people install them. There should be a gain adjustment on the unit if its worth a crap- and that really needs to be set properly.

Given the complexity of the double gain (amp and the LOC) I suggest setting the amp gain to a bit over the half mark- not quite 3/4 though. Have the LOC gain ALL the way down. Set the radio to normal listening volume with a bass heavy song or a bass track. Then adjust the LOC gain from there.

Trust me brother we all have budgets. I carry an array of products to cover most peoples budgets and needs.

So the converter will not work connected into the rear speakers? Well I am going to get the rest of my wires tomorrow and see what happens. If it doesn't work out I have everything except for the headunit. I picked up my amp today, Kenwood 1000w.

You will have to test it with a DMM

YOu need a constant 12V source only while the car is on or while radio is on.
