E-brake cable

I need to know how this works. I have converted everything over to the SSBC rear kit and have even bleed the brake system but, the cable is not physically long enough to reach the caliper. With taking off the stock caliper's and then the drum (e-brake cable problem). So at this point I really need to know how to get some slack out of the cable. That way I can attach the cable and get my car on the ground. At this point I am willing to drive 5 and 1/2 hours and only stay for two days at home just to get the rubber to meet the pavment again. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately there is no adjustment in the cable itself. All the adjustment is supposed to be made at the shoes. You might have to disconnect the cable in the front to get more slack.

the ssbc rear is different than stock setup. the parking (ebrake) is built into the caliper. Unlike the stock alero rear disc brake that is a disc w/ a built in drum.

Nosweat.. only thing i can say is cliff is right there is no adjustment on the cable.. u might need to extend the cable w/ like something off a camaro. Or don't even use it. just set the car down w/ the air ride. hehe

Yeah, when i referred to the drum, I was meaning the way it was intended originally.

You might try to look at cables on an Aurora, they have the parking brake in the caliper too... I think Cadillacs, Bonnevilles, etc.. use the same one too. Also '97 and older F-Bodies, '96 and older Corvettes, '96 and older W-Bodies, etc. etc. use the parking brake in the caliper.

My two options after talking to SSBC were to extend the cable or find out how to release tension on the stock cable so that I may connect it. I want to find out how to do option two. Any ideas?

Disconnect the cable at the handle, connect it at the calipers, then re-connect it at the handle.

Or you could try the same theory but disconnect it at the connection where the 3 cables come together.

Man, doesn't SSBC know what they're doing with these kits?

Or so I thought. When I was talking to Oldsman on the phone today he made a good point when he said "do you think they even put it on a car if they don't know?" I am still upset but, being this close I am not going to sweat it, just figure it out.

I had to switch rear knuckels to get this to work but, now the kit is completely on the car except for hooking up the E-brake system. I even blead the system. Again I find myself waiting on a company who dosent know there own product!

Well its not like they sell many kits. You, me, and americangirl (dunno if she visits the forum anymore) are the only 3 aleros with ssbc kit. And theres like 2 other people on gagt w/ front kits. But no one i know ever bought the rear drum-to-disc upgrade. which they just piece together off a camaro

I know the front calipers brackets will bolt up the rear knucles (i did it to test it out, but then i'd loose my ebrake 100%)

It would look cool! but, I will agree, having the e-brake is cooler.

Mantapart had a rear wheel drive conversion for the 2.4 so it could happen.

Last i checked the bolt spacing of the caliper bracket was wider on the Alero in the rear versus the front....

nah.. I did bolt up my front factory caliper brackets to the rear disc brake knuckle. I was going to take a pic.. but i had to put on the power slots to match my SSBC front slotted rotors before it rained. Its doable to put the front on the rears but no ebrake.. if anyone would care not to have ebrake.

so in order to adjust the e-brake cable you have to take the rear wheels off and some how tighten them up at the rear disc brakes ?

I just replaced my e-brake cause it was not working but now I have too much slack up front at the handle... and was told to look for an adjustment screw... but now it seems I am finding its at the rear discs
