Air ride / train horn question
OK so I've been playing around with my train horn set up.
All I did was take the valve off the tank and put it on the horn. Now the compressor will not stop filling with air (as in not getting upto 150 psi)
I put the pipe fitting tape on the 2 connectors and it doesn't seem to be leaking from there. I did notice a small kink (but the hose isn't bent in that area and a little bit of the hose worn away (probably from when I had the horn in the front of the car) but no air's leaking from there.
The conncetors are the push the hose in kind. No air seems to be leaking from there.
Worked fine with the valve on the tank.
I just wanted a quicker and louder response
The tank and the horn are both 1/2 inch connectors. Thinking of going to a 1/2 valve and hose as well

Also have you checked your pressure switch?
From the info in your post, it could be something like that. Is the horn still working after you let it sit for a while?

No gauge.
I have the Viar 280c compressor with a 5 gallon tank. It takes either 5 to 8 minutes to fill it from 0 to 150 psi.
When I push the botton for the horn, nothing happens. The valve is working, I can hear it clicking.
I don't hear any air hissing out. If you all are saying 15 minutes, I'll run it all the way to work tonight. It's about a 20 miunte drive at 11:10 at night

you seem to have a leak before the valve switch and back to the tank, seeing that the horn doesn't even work. if its a big enough leak you wouldn't hear hissing b\c no pressure would even build up to begin with. take soapy water and spray down all connections and all hoses/lines.

Put your finger on the suck-hole on the compressor.. it should get sucked. If not, suspect that the check valve has an issue.
Also... get a tank gauge.

OK I think I found the air leak.
Ran the compressor for 25 minutes, never stopped, no air left in system.
Did the soapy water thing, no leaks found.
I heard a chug chug chug noise comming from the horn itself. It stopped when I pushed the horn button. so I switched the wires on the switch and it on longer made the noise from the horn. I pushed the button again, and the chug chug chug noise started again (near empty tank) No prob right? Nope
When I reversed the wires the chuging stopped, but after letting go of the button, the chuging did not stop which means the valve was not closing.
Could this be just a simple thing like the valve is frozen open from all the cold air going thru? Or is it something else?

Duh to me!
I had the valve on backwards I was lying in bed this afternoon and thinking, I wonder if that valve's on backwards. I was thinking about the way I had it on the tank v the way it was on the horn.
At least I fixed that and didn't sit here and cry about it.
Now another problem has come up. The compressor won't run. It ran for a few minutes now nothing. I think I overheated it, so we'll see when I go to work tonight. Should be cooled down by then (7 hours)
