1st mod changed out shifter

Chrome shifter from AdvanceAuto.

Do any of you guys that changed out your shifter have any problems with shifting into park? I have to keep adjusting the screws everytime I have to shift into park or else I can't pull the key out of the ignition.

There's a fine line between having the handle on too far down and not far down enough, you'll find it eventually.

I think the handle and the placement look fine. How much did it cost you?

Edit: i'm retarded. wrong post wrong thread. If you removed the plastic under the shifter for any reason, make sure there is nothing inbetween where the wire connecting to the shifter and attaching several inches forward (toward the front of the car) is. there is a little metal bead on it, that has to touch the brace when its in park, or else you can't get the key out.

I noticed if i push that plastic piece all the way down, it won't let me, but if i pull it up 1/8" it does every time. odd... but fixable.

I'm not a big fan of the shaft shifters, but each to his own right?

i had that same shifter on mine for a while and over time it's probably gonna crap out on you, the longer I had that shifter the more I missed the stock one, the stock one just fits your hand comfortably when you shift. If you plan on keeping that shifter then you may wanna put a few drops of threadlock on the set screws so that it stays in place.

I hope you guys don't mind that I mention my Intrepid alot, I really loved that car and it was the first vehicle that I ever did mods to. Anyway, I had that same shifter in my Intrepid for 2 years and never had any problems with it. I did have to tighten the screws from time to time, that was probably because I was constantly tearing the dash apart. Threadlock is a great idea, I never would have thought of that, thanks for the tip. But as clutch1 said, I have to find the sweet spot before I make it semi-permanant. I like the way it looks better than the factory shifter, so I'll probably make it permanant. I learned the hard way from messing with the Intrepid that no matter how much money you throw at your car, you will always have to throw more.

By the way, if anyone wants my old shifter, make me a reasonable offer including shipping and it's yours. I still have the staple too.

Look in the front towards park not towards the seats. There should be a staple, just get a pair of needle nose pliers and pull straight out, then just pull the shifter straight up.
