Lightweight chrome rims

DO THEY EXSIST FOR OUR ALEROS!? lol, as everyone knows i have chrome rims, but the only thing i hate about them is that they are so heavy! doesnt that slow the car down a lot more? i wish there were some nice lightweight chrome rimmmmmsssss

You're more apt to have a lightweight polished wheel versus a chrome. Chrome adds weight and usually isn't offered for performance applications.

Racing Hart has some light wheels... however, they are mucho dinero. Boyfriend had 11 lb wheels on his 94 EG and just the wheels were close to $3000 for 16's.

LMAO, damn. I would never spend 3k on 16s. I wish there were lightweight chrome 18in wheels

I just hate having the big heavy rims on my car, cause i feel like its making it slower, and the brakes SUCK with my rims on. The only good thing about having my rims on is it makes my car look SEXY! EVERYBODY tells me those are nice ass rims, i can never get rid of them, just cause they look so good.....

Another question, when i put my drilled and slotted rotors on, and new pads, the braking got worse (when i had my big rims on). I put my stock rims back on last week and i noticed a difference (not a HUGE one, but it was definitley a lot better). Now i know they might not work too well cause the rims are 2 inches bigger and weigh more, BUT thats why i spent money on rotors and pads, cause i thought they would help stop them better!!!! guess i just wasted money on the stupid ass rotors.

You probably should have upgraded your brakes to a bigger size like some of our members already have. Chrome rims are heavy.

chrome and light will never be possible. As for your breaking getting worse with the new rotors, I dont know what to tell you there. When I put mine on, I didn't feel it get any better, but I didn't feel it get worse.

Yea, but then i wouldnt be able to put my stock rims back on. And i need to put them on for the winter, and i dont feel like getting some other rims to put on during the winter, cause....1. i dont want to spend the extra money, 2. i like the stock rims in the winter, they look better than any other rims i would be able to find.

EVENTUALLY, when i save a thousand dollars, i want to buy a car that i can use for the winter. THEN im going to lower my car, and upgrade the brakes (get bigger ones).

Yea, well my stock rotors werent too great, but then i put the new ones on and i have to push down a little more than i used to.

if your braking is as bad as u say it is, u screwed something up. there are plenty of people with 18-20" chrome wheels that dont have a problem with it.

What kind of pads did you put on and what kind of driving are compairing your braking with?
I know when I put on my 18in chromes I definatly lost some braking but even with drilled slotted rotors and new pads it's still better than when I got it. When I did the rotors and pads my braking improved a heck of a lot more than I thought it would since drilled slotted should realy only help in heavy/panic braking.

I'll say this I got 20's and my stopping distance increased like 100ft due to the amount of weight those rims carry. Mine are like 35 to 37 pounds each not including the tires, so thats like an increase of like what 10 pounds I think. Just have to be careful when braking and gradually slow down, and you damn sure don't want to peel out with those heavy ass rims because with time they will eat your transmission up. Still use stock brakes but found it better to go with the best brakes they offer...if not look forward to changing your pads alot sooner then anticipated, and no tranny probs.

Do you know how they make chrome rims? Do you know that it is a an entire process that requires 3 dips in a chrome tank? Do you know that chrome is usual made on a material like brass (or something of that nature) so the chrome will stick. We are not talking about shitty hubcaps you get at WalMart with tha Spinnas on them, because it's the best way to be ghetto fabulous on a McDonald's job.

Did you ever pick up a chrome rim? Well I'm going to take a wild stab here

and say no. Since they only weigh less than 40 lbs.

ALright, im pretty sure i didnt eff anything up. I put the pads on, put the rotors on all right. I dont remember the kind of pads i have on.....but i will look tomorrow, i gotta sign into my email and find the receipt. My stock wheels feel better in stopping distance. But i dont brake real hard, cause i know my pads wear pretty quick so i dont wanna burn em out quicker. sooooo, idk.....im just not impressed with the drilled and slotted rotors..... MAYBE i effed something up, but every bolt is tight, i dont think i effed up when i put the brake pads....lol you cant really do anything to eff them up.

find some chrome Centerline RPM wheels or go with Centerline polish rims. they are forged and lightweight. Just make sure if you get polished rims clearcoat them or you be swearing at yourself when you have to clean them.

ok people.....chrome is not that damn thick in order to take a 28lb wheel and make it 50lb. it is the material it is made of.

And actually if anyone here actually knows the chrome process would know that it is not the chrome that adds the weight. it is the copper and nickel and brass depending on the chroming shop and quality.

a cast aluminum chrome wheel will weight more than a forged aluminum chrome wheel. Chrome centerline RPM wheels are like 17lbs each and what most cast aluminum chrome wheels weight what 28-35lbs. both chrome but the actual wheel material is the factor.

Now cast is cheaper than forged but if you want lightweight you need to goto forged to begin with.

Yep! I wish I new about getting rims clearcoated before I put mine on, would have made things alot easier as far as cleaning. Now I clean them often but most of that is because I have some cheap pads on in the front. I would spring for a brake dust shield as well if you are going to get chrome even if you get cheap bads one day it will keep the rims cleaner much longer. Don't really need them for the rear though, I have found the rears to stay pretty clean.

Nah I wouldn't go with a brake dust shield, I personally think they are ugly and take away from the wheel.

What I would do is polish and seal those rims BEFORE you put thrm on the car. I waxed my wheels a few weeks ago with that new ICE wax from Turtle Wax, and the dirt comes off the wheels very easy with a rag and no scrubbing. Also the cool thing is that the water beeds up like it does on the body.

I love it, I'm going to wax the entire wheel in the spring. That of course will require removing the wheels from the car
