alero vs bmw?
I dont know much about bmws, so i was wondering if my manual 2door 2.4l with only a pacesetter header, could outrun or keep up with a 1986 325i bmw with no work done to it, in a quater... probably a dumb question

Research something like this:
http://www.carforums.net/showthread.php?t=10251
"1986 BMW 325es 8.6, 16.4"
"1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais Int. HO Quad 4 7.5, 16.0"
I cheated a little

Those time posted are to a HO 2.4 tho... so get the resource straight first.
Now in my opinion yes you can, but depends on the driver. I burn one with only intake on mine, but is a 2.2 which means lil less power than yours.

So what is the point? So you can scrape by him in a tight race and say "I beat a BMW with my Alero!" but you still run a 16 second quarter mile? lol
You going to bet money or somethin? Make it worth something other than just knowing you can beat an old slow BMW.

Everyone has there own reason to take there car to the track, personaly, i go for pride. Theres always going to be someone faster than you, but that still doesnt mean you cant have fun.
by the way, it doesnt matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I would say it definitely could be done, but it would depend on the engine he's got in the BMW. The 3 series was BMW's entry level car in the 80's and had varying engine sizes. The basic 316 only produced 89 hp. While you said he's got the 325i right? If that's the case he's got a 6-cylinder putting out 169 hp with nothing done to it and you got the 2.4l like me putting out 150 hp with nothing done to it. So it's possible give it a shot just don't bet pinks or anything.

I haven't driven the U.S. version of the 325, but I can tell you from a butt-dyno that a stock or even mildly modified Alero doesn't feel as fast as a stock German spec 325. I spent the mid-late '80s in good old Germany, and the 325's back then were pretty quick.
But for more fun, we put the 325 engines in the 318's for higher power with lower gearing. One of those would rape an mildly modified Alero for sure.

And I didn't race anything or think it was fast. When I had the wing on it, I always had to tell people I don't think it's fast at all, I just liked the way it looked. I knew it was slow as hell.
Car's still slow... I never brag, or say my car's anything but "decent enough" for now. I've never come on here asking if my car can beat any other car, as if it matters. It's ALL about the numbers for me. Once you know what you run, you know what you can beat and what you can't.
