Alero Swap

Just want some good pointers and comments, keep all the bad comments to yourselves.

I drive a 3.4l Alero 2 door. I like making my own trends and builds, Im not the one to follow other peoples builds, swaps, etc. Ive been doing some homework and I wanna swap out the engine for a Acura (honda) J-series engine. the J35a3 is my first choice. It should fit in the Alero, considering many factors. But most important both engines are 60 degree v6's. the J35a3 has 240hp @5800rpm and 253lb-ft @4400rpm. it has more power and as well is the same size. also they make alot more parts for it to increase performance and drivability. I know custom mounts and all that stuff is gonna be thrown in there as well. but Im determined to get the swap done.

For all the people who read this and say "why would you swap a honda engine in an american car wtf is wrong with you".. the J35a3 was used in the GM Saturn Vue and GM switched the design of the crankshaft from the forged steel in the j35a3 to the cast iron crankshaft from the j35a4. GM refers to this motor as the GM L66.

Believe me no one can put me down, but I just want other peoples feedback. Let me know.

I say go for it. If you successfully pull that off, no one will ever question your mechanical skills.

However, if you fail...............

I think for the amount of work for the swap, you can make the stock motor way better than 250hp

Go for it! Being different is what makes the world spin.

On the other hand, the chances of this actually happening are slim, but not improbable. Best of luck.

Yeah but think about it, spend money and make my stock 110,xxx mile motor have 250 hp, or buy an engine with 40,xxx miles on that comes stock with 260 to 280 hp. and they make alot more parts for that engine rather then the 3.4l out of the alro

I would really like a 6 speed, but more then likely it'd have to be a 5. whichever one can mount up better. Of course custom mounts and all that are needed. I did my homework on the engines next is transmissions and find a place that can make the mounts

buy a mig welder while you're at it and do it like me... browse the energysuspension website, and do them custom... use a f23 from a cavalier 2200sfi that way you'll be able to use stock 5 speed alero transmission mount and axles etc... it'll be better that way because you'll have a good starting point to mount the engine in it's place

Your motor won't have 110,xxx miles once you rebuild it. Also, what more parts do you need? There is a heads, cam, intakes, pistons, rods, etc. But its your car so good luck!! What kind of weight is on those motors? You gonna use the saturn vue motor for the GM sensors and electronics?
