how long do struts last?
So I've hit a few pot holes recently and I think its time for new struts. Now my car has 120k miles on it and I don't think that they've ever been replace.
Would it be ok to just replace front struts only?
And the the strut shock absorber is the only thing I should replace right?
Thanks

New struts might last 15,000 on average roads.
You can front only if you want but your car will ride better and your struts all around should last longer if all are new.
Just the strut.
Your welcome.

they will also last longer if you don't drive around with fat chicks in your car. That will also improve your social standing as well.

struts are hit and miss...ive had to have my passenger side rear replaced about 2 years ago...but the rest are perfectly fine for now, im sitting on 85,000 miles, so that was done around 50,000 miles, luckily it was all warranty work so only the $100 deductible on the warranty

Agreed its hit or miss....My factory struts had 58K on them with about 56K of that coming lowered and on bumpy ass pa roads. Needless to say, they were still fine.

80K on stock lowered here, I would not worry about them, ever, unless your car ride starts getting soft. Go google how they work and then you'll understand when they go bad.

My dad just got this sweet demo from the Napa shock rep for his shop that shows the difference between a good and a bad shock....pretty incredible honestly.

Idiot Question but does it hurt your car to drive on bad struts or is it just uncomfortable.
I drove a 88 camry around unil 02 (i didnt have it the whole time obviously) But it still had stock struts.

Doesn't hurt the car, unless you start bottoming out going over bumps and stuff.

Or if they completely snap like my rears did and you almost drag the ground. :P
...but yeah 50-75k is the average life of a strut. Mine lasted almost 175k, but they were waaaay mushy.

You'll wear out your tires faster and your braking will get worse.
